Technical Product Owner

Description

TECHNICAL PRODUCT OWNER

Digital Technology @ KFC

At KFC, our platform has constantly evolved to make it as easy as possible to order our great chicken.  We brought our development in-house four years ago which has helped to drive collaboration and innovation.  Here at KFC, we empower people to be their best selves, make a difference and have fun.

Think you can only buy our chicken in-store at our restaurants?!  Think again!  We’ve created a fast, simple omnichannel experience to help people order and get their food in the way that is most convenient to them, whether that be through our app to collect service via the front counter or drive-thru, in-store kiosk integrations, or fully integrated aggregator delivery (Deliveroo, JustEat, UberEats etc) and there’s more to come.

We use Reactjs on our front-end and Node.js on our back-end, within a Serverless environment (AWS), so experience with JavaScript is ideal, but we’re happy to support your learning if you don’t have it. You can read more about our tech stack here…

https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/architecture/the-technology-behind-kfcs-finger-lickin-good-success/

Whilst we’re one of the world’s biggest and most loved brands, we’re still a small tech team of around 40 people (and growing!) so it’s a great environment to get exposure to lots of different projects.

About the role…

Behind every great product, is a great product team focussed on adding value to our guests (we call our customers, guests) and business so we’re looking for a Technical Product Owner to drive KFC’s digital offering across multiple markets and help achieve our goals and objectives.

RESPONSIBILITIES

·       Be primary contact for the digital platform across the rest of the organisation (including KFC Global and Yum, the parent company).

·       Work closely with other parts of the business, primarily the Marketing team along with the platform team to build a quarterly plan and then lead its execution.

·       Lead engagement with all relevant stakeholders, team members and the management team and maintain alignment in terms of expectations, progress and changes.

·       Working in partnership with the Lead Product Owner, create a vision for each service and any new platform services or features

·       Partner with the Head of Architecture to ensure the data and Personalisation strategy is delivered for all digital channels.

·       Own the daily/weekly reporting for the platform and ensure all stakeholders have instant access

·       Be accountable for the performance of the digital platform and ensure performance standards are met

·       Translate product strategy into user stories and prototypes, balancing commercial and technical requirements

·       Monitor development of the product to ensure products are built and delivered to the highest quality

·       Ideally own the DevOps roadmap and ensure delivery across all squads

·       Manage all our development partners, monitoring spends and regularly assessing performance, holding quarterly reviews

What we’d love from you…

We’re looking for innovative, empathetic, and committed people who are passionate about Product, and our Products.  We’re a famous brand with a relatively small team, so we’d like someone who is able and willing to build strategy but also get involved in the detail.  A successful team survives on Trust so we’re looking for you to empower your team, rather than micromanage.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

·       Strong experience building and maintaining trust and influence within the team and with stakeholders across the business.

·       5+ year’s experience as a Technical Product Owner, including good understanding of digital technology platforms (AWS Serverless), web and app development and technology operations (Javascript React, React Native & Node).

·       Good technical understanding – you don’t need to be able to code but you need to know enough to have healthy debates with our brilliant developers and architects!

·       Exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to react to change and easily determine next steps without sacrificing the long-term vision.

·       Innate curiosity about how everything works and each part fits together and the ability to easily share that with others.

·       Natural at keeping all relevant parties informed and has excellent communication skills (verbal and written)

·       Ability to break complex challenges and situations into component parts, analyse information quickly, spot patterns from various info sources and offer multiple, creative solutions when presented with a problem. Strong understanding of how consumer, competitor and company factors inform business strategy and influence sales.

·       Strong experience presenting to and communicating with the leadership team (and others) across the various functions using easy to understand language.

ABOUT YOU

·       Naturally thinks commercially and is equally comfortable in discussions with the marketing team as the digital team.

·       People oriented leader who leads by example and inspires trust and confidence.

·       Naturally collaborative with a strong sense of ownership.

·       Consistent drive for continuous improvement, leading activities that support efficiencies and improvements to experience for guests and staff at restaurants.

·       Champion an environment of inclusivity and trust where people can be their best self. Creating an environment where people feel they belong, that their contributions matter and that they can reach their full potential.

·       Driven to roll up the sleeves and get things done while focusing on actions that drive results. Passion to leave a positive mark on the people and the business.

·       Demonstrated ability to think innovatively - connecting the dots when others cannot. Able to make the leap from information to insight. Able to identify, nurture and help refine compelling creative ideas and concepts.

·       Can organize, summarize, clarify and communicate ideas simply, succinctly and accurately.

·       Think strategically while acting tactically

·       Ability to communicate the most complex and detailed concepts and ideas in simple easy to understand fashion.

·       An independent thinker willing and able to express and support a point of view.

·       self-motivated, moves at a nice clip and enjoys having multiple projects going at once. Can change course, be scrappy and get things done within short timeframes.

·       Have sound judgment and comfortable questioning actions inconsistent with company values.
