We are looking for a confident and operational Assistant General Manager to support the General Manager in the day‑to‑day running of the Hope & Anchor. This is a hands‑on role for someone comfortable working in a fast‑paced service environment while maintaining high standards and supporting the team.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Service
- Support the General Manager in delivering on budgeted performance targets
- Act as Duty Manager, taking responsibility for smooth daily operations
- Lead shifts across food, drink and accommodation, ensuring consistent service standards
- Handle guest queries, complaints and feedback promptly and professionally
- Maintain high standards of presentation, cleanliness and venue upkeep
People Management
- Support the management, motivation and supervision of Front of House staff
- Assist with staff recruitment, onboarding and training
Support rota planning and effective staff deployment
- Assist with absence management and holiday approvals in line with company policy
Lead by example during busy services
Stock, Cash & Controls
- Assist with Front of House, bar and accommodation stock control
- Support ordering, receipt and stock rotation procedures
Assist with cash handling, PDQ controls and petty cash where required
Monitor uniform and equipment usage
Sales & Revenue
- Actively support upselling across food, drink and accommodation
- Support promotional and sales initiatives to maximise revenue
- Ensure guests are informed of accommodation and relevant venue offers
Health, Safety & Compliance
Support
- Compliance with licensing, health & safety and fire safety requirements
- Ensure safety procedures are followed during all shifts
- Maintain awareness of emergency procedures and act accordingly
Leadership & Deputy Duties
- Deputise for the General Manager during periods of absence
- Support communication of standards, procedures and company expectations
- Act as an ambassador for the Hope & Anchor at all times

- Previous experience in a supervisory or management role within hospitality
- Used to working in a busy, fast‑paced pub environment
Strong customer service and team leadership skills
- Organised, reliable and confident making operational decisions
Flexible approach to working hours, including evenings and weekends
