The Independent is seeking a poised, hospitality-driven Maitre D’ to serve as the face of our restaurant. As the first and last point of contact for our guests, you are responsible for setting the tone of the entire dining experience through warmth, precision, and proactive service.
The ideal candidate is a "composed professional" who thrives in high-pressure environments, works seamlessly within a team, and possesses the independence to manage the floor effectively.
Compensation: $28/ hourlyThe RoleYou aren’t just seating guests; you are orchestrating the flow of the evening. You will manage the reception area, curate a welcoming atmosphere, and ensure every guest, from first-timers to our "special attention" regulars, feels uniquely valued.
Key ResponsibilitiesGuest Relations: Provide a warm welcome and fond farewell; manage reservations and "lost and found" with meticulous care.
Service Coordination: Review booking sheets to memorize guest names and preferences; collaborate with the service team to identify open tables and manage seating times.
Atmosphere Management: Maintain a pristine entrance and reception area; ensure all stationery, coat check supplies, and guest amenities are stocked and ready.
Concierge Mindset: Assist guests with inquiries regarding the menu and the local NYC area.
Operational Excellence: Utilize our reservation systems to input data accurately and manage the floor layout during busy shifts.
Hospitality First: A genuine passion for guest interaction and a "yes" mentality.
Grace Under Pressure: The ability to remain calm, tactful, and diplomatic during peak hours.
Team Player & Self-Starter: You can take direction from management while also identifying and solving problems independently.
