We’re looking for an enthusiastic and hardworking Commis Chef to join our friendly kitchen team

Situated in the heart of Newark-on-Trent, The Prince Rupert is a stunning 15th-century pub that seamlessly blends historical charm with contemporary hospitality. Originally constructed in 1452, this Grade II listed building has been meticulously restored, preserving its medieval timber-framed architecture while offering modern amenities.

The interior features a series of cozy snugs and quirky rooms spread across two levels, showcasing original beams and vaulted ceilings. Guests can enjoy a terraced beer garden, a conservatory, and a hidden upstairs venue available for private hire, providing versatile spaces for various occasions.

The bar boasts an impressive selection of real ales, craft beers, and a curated gin menu, ensuring there's something to satisfy everyone. The pub also hosts regular promotions and events, sand even has a secret Speakeasy, which surprises everyone!

Adding to its unique appeal, the Speakeasy within the pub offers retro charm, funky music, and handcrafted cocktails. Open on Fridays and Saturdays, this intimate space provides an unforgettable night out and is available for private hire.
 


The job in a nutshell

  • Assist with the preparation and cooking of menu items under the guidance of senior chefs

  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness, organisation, and food hygiene

  • Learn how to manage ingredients, prep, plating, and kitchen safety

  • Support the team during busy service times and contribute to a positive kitchen environment

  • Take every opportunity to grow your skills and confidence

What we are looking for:

  • A genuine interest in food and cooking

  • A strong work ethic and a willingness to learn

  • Good communication skills and a team-focused attitude

  • Ability to take instruction and work calmly under pressure

  • Previous kitchen experience is helpful but not essential – full training provided
