Bar Manager – The Queens Head, Soho

Pay: From £17.50 per hour (£36,400/year based on 40 hours) + Weekly Pay

Location: Soho, London (Two floors, 120 capacity, 100% wet-led)

Forget corporate. Come run a proper Soho local.

Pouring pints since 1738, The Queens Head is one of the last true independents standing in Soho. We don't do corporate handbooks, endless approval loops, or complicated kitchen operations. Think exceptional independent beer, live music Sundays, a loyal local crowd, and a proper pub atmosphere.

We're looking for an experienced Bar Manager who wants a real stake in running a proper, hands-on independent pub. You won't be chained to a desk, but this isn't just a floor role either; we want someone ready to sink their teeth into the business, drive sales, and grow with us.

What you’ll be doing

  • Own the floor: Lead high-energy shifts across our two floors, keeping an eye on flow, capacity, and vibe without ever losing your cool.
  • Beer & cellar: You know your draught, spirits, and wine and take complete pride in our cellar. You'll handle line cleaning, cask conditioning, and stock control so every single pint served is world-class.
  • Lead & develop: Manage, motivate, and mentor a small, brilliant team. No more than eight people on shift.
  • Drive the business beyond the bar: For the right person, this role expands quickly. You’ll have the space to input on rotas, manage ordering, and help drive sales and local community engagement.

The perks

  • Solid pay & stability: From £17.50/h, 38-40 hours guaranteed, a fair rota, paid overtime, and weekly pay.
  • The bar tab: A weekly drinks tab where you earn £1 for every hour you work.
  • The fun stuff: Regular brewery tours, supplier tastings, staff days out, and proper summer/Christmas parties.
  • Discounts: 20% off for you, your friends, and family.
  • Time off: 28 days holiday a year.
  • Autonomy & progression: Work with an independent head office that listens to your ideas, values your commercial input, and wants to see you develop as the business grows.

Who we’re looking for

  • You’ve run shifts and managed teams before in a busy pub or bar environment.
  • You know your way around a cellar, a draught line, and a proper pint.
  • You’re a natural host who loves talking to people, but you've got the backbone to handle security, door staff, and challenging customers calmly.
  • You don't hide in the back office when it's quiet, but use downtime to keep standards razor-sharp.
  • You’re reliable, computer literate, and comfortable with the hands-on, practical side of keeping a busy pub running.

Bonus points if you’re ready to step up:
We love candidates who want more than just a frontline shift. If you have experience with social media, music and events, rota-building, cost control, driving sales, or staying ahead of industry trends, tell us about it. We want someone who gets genuinely excited about making a small independent pub even better.
