Description

We are currently looking for an experienced Commis Sommelier to join our team at The Stafford London Hotel.

 About The Stafford London

Situated just off Piccadilly, in the heart of historic St James’s, Mayfair, The Stafford London is one of the finest luxury hotels in the Capital. Alive with English character, it holds 5 AA Red Stars for its excellence.

The Stafford London is home to the renowned American Bar, a London institution and The Game Bird, 2 Rosette Restaurant which celebrates contemporary British cooking. Under the direction of celebrated Michelin-starred Chef Lisa Goodwin-Allen, The Game Bird is inspired by great seasonal British produce and the bustle of historic St James’s.

Qualities we are looking for:

  • Previous experience in a similar role and within a fast-paced luxury environment
  • Level 2 WSET or a similar qualification
  • A real passion for food and beverage
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Confident, professional, and welcoming personality
  • Impeccable appearance of personal grooming
  • Proficient in English language
  • Impeccable standards with a passion for delivering outstanding service
  • Enthusiastic about wine and eager to ensure that guests are given an exciting and memorable experience
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required


Your responsibilities will include:

  • Provide an exceptional guest service experience
  • Advise guests on wines based on their personal tastes and food choices
  • Inform guests about different varieties of wines and prices
  • Recommend food and wine pairings
  • Ensure wines are served at the right temperature and within the proper glassware
  • Store open bottles properly to maintain strong taste
  • Train Waiters on available wines
  • Maintain a deep understanding of the restaurant's wine offerings and menu.
  • Assist in coordinating wine-related events, tastings, and promotions and lead wine tastings in the Stafford Wine cellars
  • Provide assistance during wine service, including decanting, pouring, and presenting bottles to guests with finesse.
  • Maintain proper glassware and wine service equipment, ensuring they are clean and polished.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, sanitation standards, and food handling procedures.


In line with the Asylum and Immigration Act 1996, we do require all applicants to have the eligibility to live and work in the United Kingdom. Documentation will be required at interview stage.
