Founding Bartender / Barista
The Whit | New Orleans, LA
We're opening the doors to something extraordinary, and we're looking for the people who will help define it.
The Whit is an intimate luxury hotel housed in a beautifully restored 19th-century mansion in the heart of New Orleans. Home to 15 guest rooms, a bar, cocktail salon, library, refined food and beverage, and elegant private events, The Whit offers a hospitality experience that feels more like staying in the home of an extraordinary host than a traditional hotel.
As part of our founding Food & Beverage team, the Founding Bartender / Barista will help bring The Whit's beverage experience to life from day one.
This is a hands-on, guest-facing role for someone who loves both the craft and the connection that comes with great hospitality. You'll move seamlessly between cocktails, wine, Champagne, coffee, and thoughtful guest interactions, creating an experience that feels polished, personal, and effortless.
At The Whit, the bar is more than a place to order a drink. It's part of the rhythm and character of the house. We're looking for someone who understands that the best beverage experiences come from equal parts skill, attention to detail, and genuine care for the person in front of you.
What You'll Do
Welcome guests with warmth, confidence, and genuine hospitality.
Prepare and serve cocktails, spirits, wine, Champagne, zero-proof beverages, coffee, and espresso drinks to established standards.
Create personalized beverage experiences by understanding guest preferences and making thoughtful recommendations.
Maintain a strong knowledge of our cocktails, spirits, wine, Champagne, coffee, and beverage offerings.
Prepare classic and signature cocktails with precision, consistency, and attention to presentation.
Prepare high-quality espresso and milk-based coffee beverages throughout the day.
Maintain a clean, organized, and beautifully presented bar and beverage station.
Complete opening and closing side work to ensure the bar and coffee program are always ready for service.
Maintain appropriate product levels throughout service and communicate replenishment needs clearly.
Follow recipes, measurements, preparation methods, and presentation standards consistently.
Maintain proper glassware, garnishes, tools, equipment, and beverage supplies throughout the shift.
Follow proper handling, labeling, dating, storage, and rotation procedures for all beverage products.
Accurately process guest checks and follow established POS procedures.
Communicate closely with the kitchen, service, events, housekeeping, and hotel teams to ensure a seamless guest experience.
Support private events and special occasions with the same level of care and attention given to everyday service.
Respond to guest requests and concerns with professionalism, warmth, and sound judgment.
Keep informed of product availability, menu changes, and daily service notes.
Contribute thoughtful feedback as we continue developing The Whit's beverage program and service standards.
Support the team wherever needed to ensure the property feels welcoming, polished, and ready for every guest.
Who You Are
You're someone who believes great hospitality is equal parts craft, connection, and attention to detail.
You're confident behind a bar, comfortable behind an espresso machine, and genuinely enjoy taking care of people. You know how to make a beautiful cocktail, but you also know that remembering a guest's favorite drink or noticing when someone needs a little extra attention can be just as meaningful.
You're naturally organized and take pride in keeping your station clean, prepared, and thoughtfully presented. You care about consistency and understand that luxury is often found in the small details.
You're comfortable working in an intimate environment where every team member plays an important role. You're willing to jump in, help a teammate, learn something new, and do whatever is needed to create an exceptional guest experience.
Most importantly, you're excited to be part of a founding team and help shape the beverage culture of The Whit from the very beginning.
Qualifications
Previous bartending experience in craft cocktail, fine dining, luxury hotel, boutique hotel, private club, or other high-touch hospitality environments preferred.
Strong knowledge of cocktails, spirits, wine, Champagne, and beverage service.
Comfortable preparing espresso and milk-based coffee beverages.
Genuine passion for hospitality and creating memorable guest experiences.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to consistency.
Ability to maintain a clean, organized, and polished service environment.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment while maintaining composure and attention to detail.
Professional appearance and demeanor.
Familiarity with Toast POS or a similar system preferred.
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a small, highly engaged team.
Evening, weekend, and holiday availability.
Willingness to learn, adapt, and contribute during the opening period.
Why The Whit?
This is an opportunity to join The Whit's founding Food & Beverage team and help establish what exceptional beverage hospitality looks and feels like from the very first day.
You'll work in an intimate environment where the details matter, relationships are personal, and your contribution will help shape the experience we create for every guest.
If you're passionate about cocktails, coffee, hospitality, and creating genuine connections—and you're excited by the opportunity to help build something extraordinary from the ground up—we'd love to meet you.
