Description

Guest Service Porter

The Whit | New Orleans, LA

The Whit is an intimate luxury boutique hotel where gracious hospitality feels personal, effortless, and unforgettable. We are seeking a Guest Service Porter to join our opening team and become an essential part of the guest experience and daily operation of the hotel.

This is not a traditional bellman or back-of-house porter position.

Our Porters are an important part of the connective thread between our guests, hotel operations, and The Salon. You’ll be one of the first team members guests encounter, welcoming them upon arrival, handling luggage, assisting with guest requests, and ensuring the property is always clean, organized, and beautifully presented.

At the same time, you’ll work behind the scenes supporting Housekeeping, Food & Beverage, Events, and Facilities. The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys staying active, takes pride in their surroundings, and understands that luxury service is just as much about what happens behind the scenes as what the guest sees.

If you’re naturally helpful, hands-on, and enjoy being part of a team where no two days are exactly alike, we’d love to meet you.

What You’ll Do

Guest Arrival & Departure

  • Welcome guests warmly at the curb or property entrance

  • Assist with vehicle unloading and luggage collection

  • Tag, organize, and safely transport guest luggage

  • Coordinate with the Hosts or Hotel Manager during arrival

  • Transport luggage to guest rooms following check-in

  • Assist with guest departures and luggage retrieval

  • Provide directions and answer basic questions about the hotel and surrounding area

Guest Services

  • Retrieve and store guest luggage

  • Deliver packages, parcels, amenities, ice, pillows, towels, and other guest requests

  • Assist guests with transportation arrangements

  • Provide umbrellas and other assistance during inclement weather

  • Communicate guest needs to the appropriate department and follow through to completion

  • Maintain a warm, visible, and helpful presence throughout the property

Hotel & Housekeeping Support

  • Transport and distribute linens and supplies throughout the property

  • Collect and transport dirty linen

  • Assist Housekeeping with amenity and supply restocking

  • Deliver supplies to guestroom floors

  • Assist with rollaway beds, Murphy beds, and Pack ’n Plays

  • Perform luggage and storage room organization

  • Support general guestroom and operational needs

Restaurant & F&B Support

  • Welcome restaurant guests and coordinate with the Host, Hotel Manager, or F&B Manager

  • Deliver room service, amenities, and guest orders

  • Assist with bussing and resetting tables

  • Maintain water and ice stations

  • Complete glassware and supply runs

  • Assist with daily restaurant side work

  • Support event setup and breakdown

Property & Facilities

  • Maintain a polished and welcoming arrival experience

  • Refresh and straighten the porch, entryway, and public areas

  • Conduct daily property walks and identify cleanliness or maintenance concerns

  • Remove trash and recycling from the bar, Salon, and property

  • Break down cardboard and assist with deliveries and receiving

  • Organize and restock storage areas

  • Assist with event furniture movement and setup

  • Maintain pool towels and assist with pool deck cleanliness

  • Provide basic maintenance assistance, including light bulb replacement

  • Assist Engineering with general tasks as needed

Teamwork & Cross-Training

Our Porters are cross-trained across both guest-facing and operational responsibilities. You may spend part of your shift welcoming a guest and handling luggage, and another part supporting Housekeeping, F&B, Events, or Facilities.

  • Respond to simple guest requests with confidence and professionalism

  • Support private events and special functions

  • Maintain luxury-level cleanliness throughout guest and public areas

  • Communicate guest needs clearly with Housekeeping, Front Office, F&B, and Leadership

  • Assist with emergency procedures and guest evacuations when needed

  • Work as part of a flexible team where priorities shift throughout the day

What We’re Looking For

  • Previous experience in a luxury hotel, boutique hotel, upscale restaurant, or hospitality environment preferred

  • A genuine passion for hospitality and helping others

  • Warm, friendly, and professional presence

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

  • Ability to anticipate needs and take initiative without always being asked

  • Comfortable working independently and as part of a team

  • Strong attention to detail and pride in maintaining a beautiful environment

  • Ability to move between guest-facing and behind-the-scenes responsibilities with ease

  • Comfortable working on your feet and staying active throughout an entire shift

  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and move luggage, supplies, linens, furniture, and other items as needed

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds

  • Availability to work mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events

Why You’ll Love This Role

As a Guest Service Porter at The Whit, you’ll play a role in nearly every part of the guest experience. You’ll welcome guests at the door, deliver their luggage, respond to requests, support our restaurant and events, and help keep the entire property running beautifully behind the scenes.

This is a hands-on position for someone who takes pride in being helpful, dependable, observant, and genuinely hospitable.

If you believe luxury hospitality is about anticipating needs, taking care of the details, and making things easier for both guests and your teammates, we invite you to join The Whit’s opening team.
