Business Analyst

Description

Business Analyst

Our purpose at The Works is to inspire reading, learning, creativity and play. Combined with a clear and focussed strategy, we have 3+ years of innovative strategic programmes and projects to deliver and implement towards delivering our purpose

We’re looking for a team of Business Analysts in this new pivotal function to shape and redefine business requirements them feed into and work in partnership with our Project Management and Development teams

The BA team will have exposure of working across all our specialist departments, including Ecommerce, Retail and Supply Chain

This is an exciting opportunity to help shape the future-change of a large UK retailer and to join a relatively new IT function as they grow their internal skills and influence.

About You

You’re a natural and curious communicator that can build a rapport with internal and external stakeholders to effectively capture requirements. You have the ability to digest and articulate a complex process back to users in an easy to understand manner.

Through curiosity and conversation, you can dig deeper to really understand requirements, with the ability to challenge and guide stakeholders to realise what they actually need before feeding into the project and development pipeline

You can identify problems in business areas through process mapping or conversation and propose solutions. You will be able to pro-actively lead the conversation and move projects along from a requirements gathering perspective and be comfortable in rounding up stakeholders to keep the requirement momentum and focus

Key responsibilities:

  • Process and UX Journey Mapping: Create process maps and user journeys for the AS-IS and TO-BE. Highlighting the value-add and non-value-add steps that we can improve or remove. This includes examining conversion for web journeys, data transfer for in-house processes and repetition for inefficiencies

  • Facilitating Workshops and Delivering Presentations: Facilitating workshops with various functions, either to help with the requirements gathering process or for managing specific issues. Being able to steer the meeting and ensure the outcomes are obvious and are not deviated from. Presentations should ensure key messages are conveyed and the tone is correct for the audience

  • Knowledge Management: Ensure that all knowledge is centralised somewhere and handed off to the relevant members of the business, ensuring smooth handover from Project to Operations. This includes creating entries into Confluence our central WIKI for knowledge, creating handover documentation for service and facilitating demonstrations to business users.

  • Requirements Gathering: Using various techniques and methodologies to enable succinct capture of business requirements. Transforming these into the relevant collateral (User Stories, Process Maps, Statements of Work, and Presentations).  This will require engagement with the business in conversation, asking questions to understand, clarify and challenge the needs and help to define business workflows, rules, measures, KPIs and controls. Then to work with business owners to present the potential changes in proposals, with business cases, DCF based Investment Appraisals and documented requirements.

Behaviours:

  • Passionate - You want to learn, grow and develop the service we offer and be a key part of real business transformation
  • Communication – You enjoy building and developing relationships with people and can articulate complex subjects back to any audience in a way they understand
  • Organised – You can prioritise your workload, set expectations and keep your promises
  • Alternative thinking – You can “think outside the box” and are always looking for the next opportunity or solution
  • Pro-active – You make things happen in line with the task ahead by bringing the right people together
  • Engaging – You demonstrate active listening, ask questions, even difficult questions but remain approachable as a BA partner the business trusts to help deliver change

Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

  • In-depth understanding of analysis techniques and approaches.
  • Experience of working with either an in-house or outsourced development team
  • Experience of delivering end-to-end business change projects in partnership with Project Management, Development and other support teams
  • Strong facilitation and presentation skills
  • Strong organisation and planning skills
  • Strong process mapping skills
  • Strong problem solving and investigative skills

Desirable

  • Retail technology experience
  • Experience utilising outcome driven planning
  • Experience working in the Retail Sector
  • Salesforce or other website platform experience
  • Experience working as part of an AGILE team
  • Experience of point of sales software such as Enactor
  • Experience of working with Business Information tools or in a data transformation project

  • Hybrid working (manage your own diary / location in line with your project needs)
  • 25% discount off our products in store!
  • 33 days holiday (inclusive of Bank Holidays)
  • Holiday Purchase Scheme to increase your annual leave entitlement
  • Company pension contribution
  • Cycle to Work Scheme
  • Employee Assistance Programme

  • Free Car Parking when on-site
  • Optional Charity Giving – ‘Pennies from Heaven’ and ‘Give as you Earn’
