Front of House Host
Another Place, The Machrie

Description

Facing the Atlantic, with unbroken views of dunes, sea and sky, lies The Machrie on the Isle of Islay. A contemporary hotel with 43 beautifully designed rooms, suites and family lodges, a world-class golf links, restaurant, outside sauna and hot tub garden, screening room and modern art collection.

Freshly landed seafood served on the terrace. Far-stretching empty sands. Cool clear waters inviting you in. On Islay, one of the easiest to reach islands off the west coast of Scotland, adventure and a landscape teeming with wildlife await.

With a team that values connection, flexibility, variety, and challenge, we're all about making a meaningful impact on our guest’s holiday. Our three core values - We Care, We Notice, We Change – show what it means to work for a hotel which goes above and beyond for our team and guests. At Another Place, we don't just provide a place for our guests to rest their heads - we create memorable experiences that they'll remember for a lifetime.

Our Front of House Host role:

We need attentive, outgoing individuals with a can-do attitude to make guests feel at home, from first impression on the phone to final goodbye at the end of their stay.

You’ll embody the spirit of Another Place with your friendly welcome, effortless charm and seamless efficiency. And you’ll get a unique insight into all aspects of a busy, award-winning hotel. This balance of customer service and office life brings the best of both worlds, boosts your skillset and ensures working days are never dull.

Guests will remember you for underpinning the happiness that shaped their holiday, and you’ll thrive on it – while taking the next step up the ladder of your hospitality career.

Island life can be a quieter way of life, but joining the team means you’ll be part of a wonderful community of like-minded individuals who all enjoy the lifestyle on Islay, from the stunning wildlife and scenery, to the fascinating whisky distilleries and the incredible variety of guests who visit The Machrie, it truly is a unique place to live and work.

For this role we can offer accommodation if required but due to the location of the hotel and our accommodation you'll need your own transport.

As our Front of House Host you'll be:

  • Assisting with all aspects of a guest’s stay, from booking meals and treatments to helping with luggage and dealing with any queries or concerns.
  • Going above and beyond guest expectations to provide a welcoming positive and comfortable experience, whether in person, over the phone or through other forms of communication.
  • Working back of house as part of our Guest Services team, honing your admin skills at our brand-new head office.
  • Checking guests in and out.
  • Taking room service orders and deliver to guests’ rooms.
  • Spotting when guests might need help and be on hand to offer it.
  • Understanding everything involved in being a Reception Host at Another Place, from knowing the hotel inside out, to being fully fluent in all policies, systems and procedures so any guest query can be addressed the moment it’s made.
  • Lending a sympathetic ear if there are any complaints, record and handle them if you can or escalate to your House Manager.
  • Completing daily tasks quickly and efficiently, exactly when they are needed.
  • Acting in accordance with Health & Safety laws.
  • Keeping public spaces clean and tidy.
  • Being an active and engaged member of the team and always carry out duties to assist in the smooth running of the hotel as requested by your line manager.
  • Always living and breathing the Another Place Hotel brand.

The skills you'll be sharing with us:

  • Meticulous attention to detail. Whether it’s pre-arrival, or in house, you’ll notice when a guest needs help with something – sometimes before they do.
  • Previous experience of using property management systems.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Previous front of house experience.
  • Good communicator.
  • Experience of hotel computer systems
  • Adept at prioritising and time management.
  • Administrative skills.
  • Basic IT skills.
  • Own transport is essential

It would also be great if you have:

  • Previous F&B experience.
  • First Aid qualification.
  • Current Enhanced DBS.

What we can offer in return:

  • A relaxed, professional place to work in a beautiful location – Islay ‘the queen’ of the Hebridean archipelago off the west coast of Scotland
