Driver and General Assistant | Another Place, The Machrie | Hosts

Offering a competitive salary, monthly tips, and an annual £2,598 Islay Living Allowance (paid monthly) for all off-site team.

Facing the Atlantic, on the isle of Islay, with unbroken views of dunes, sea and sky, lies Another Place, The Machrie. Originating from the Gaelic term ‘machair’, meaning ‘the linking stretch of land that joins the grassy dunes with the shoreline’, The Machrie offers elevated comforts and unforgettable experiences.

Freshly landed seafood served on the terrace. Far-stretching empty sands. Cool clear waters inviting you in. On Islay, one of the easiest-to-reach islands off the west coast of Scotland, adventure and a landscape teeming with wildlife await.

With a team that values connection, flexibility, variety, and challenge, we focus on making a meaningful impact on our guests’ holidays. At Another Place, we don’t just provide a place to rest – we create memorable experiences that guests will remember for a lifetime.

  • Assisting guests with luggage handling and providing professional, courteous service during transport.
  • Managing delivery and pickup of supplies, laundry, and mail as required.
  • Keeping accurate records of trips, fuel usage, and vehicle servicing.

General Assistance Duties

  • Supporting various hotel departments (housekeeping, front office, kitchen, maintenance) as needed.
  • Setting up for events, guest arrivals, and other operational requirements.
  • Handling luggage, equipment, and deliveries efficiently and safely.
  • Performing light cleaning, restocking, and organizational tasks as required.
  • Responding promptly and calmly to operational needs or special guest requests.
  • Reporting maintenance concerns, guest issues, or safety hazards to your line manager.
  • Assisting housekeeping with lifting and transporting linen between hotel and laundry facilities.
  • Supporting maintenance tasks under guidance from your line manager or General Manager.
  • Helping during emergencies (power outages, roadblocks, or weather disruptions) with a calm, solution-oriented approach.

The skills you’ll be sharing with us:

  • A valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • A Personal Taxi License (fees covered by the hotel).
  • Previous experience in a similar role (driver, general assistant, or hospitality operations).
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Flexibility to work irregular hours, weekends, and holidays.
  • Physically fit and able to assist with lifting and light manual tasks.
  • Responsible, trustworthy, and capable of working independently while supporting a team.

It would also be great if you have:
