Our Bar Manager role

We’re looking for our new bar manager to be passionate about Islay and our drink producers, and keen to learn all there is to know about the distilleries on the island to be able to talk confidently about them to our guests. With a passion for hospitality, a keen eye for detail, you’ll have the ability to lead and inspire a team.

You’ll be an experienced and enthusiastic Bar Manager ready to oversee the day-to-day operations of our bar. The Bar Manager will be responsible for ensuring excellent customer service, maintaining high standards of beverage quality and presentation, and managing inventory and financials effectively.

As part of this role, we’re looking for a mixologist who is a passionate and creative professional who elevates the art of cocktail making, continuously pushing boundaries to craft unique and delightful drinking experiences for our guests.

In addition to your technical skills, you’ll need to possess the ability to work in a team, be guest focused, engage with customers, recommend drinks based on their preferences, and educate them about the ingredients and techniques used in the cocktails. You’ll also be involved in creating custom drink menus and conducting tastings.

As our Bar Manager you’ll be:

• Working closely with the Restaurant Manager and oversee the day-to-day running operation of the restaurant in The Machrie Hotel and Golf Links
• Ensuring our guests are served in a relaxed yet professional manner, in keeping with our core values
• Overseeing the daily operations of the bar, ensuring smooth service and high standards of customer satisfaction.
• Ensuring compliance with health, safety, and liquor regulations.
• Maintaining cleanliness and organization of the bar area, ensuring all equipment is in good working order.
• Ensuring that customers receive prompt and courteous service.
• Addressing customer complaints and concerns promptly and professionally.
• Creating and updating the bar menu, including cocktails, wines, beers, and non-alcoholic beverages.
• Developing and maintain relationships with regular customers.
• Ensuring all beverages are prepared to the highest standards and presented attractively.
• Aware of current industry trends and will incorporate innovative beverage offerings.
• Managing inventory levels, conduct regular stock checks, and order supplies as needed.
• Monitoring and controlling bar costs, including labour, inventory, and wastage.
• Analysing sales and revenue reports to make informed business decisions and improve profitability.
• Developing and implementing marketing strategies and promotions to attract new customers and retain existing ones.
• Coordinating events and special promotions to increase bar traffic and sales

The skills you’ll be sharing with us:

• Previous experience in a supervisory/management role in a similar setting
• Proven experience of managing a team.
• Good knowledge of customer care and complaint handling
• Barista experience
• Experienced in mixology
• Strong knowledge of wine and drinks
• Computer literate
• A confident and bright personality
• A passion for delivering the best guest experience
• Calm under pressure
