Overview

The Assistant Manager supports the General Manager in the day-to-day running of Union Bar Chiswick, ensuring exceptional customer service, strong team performance, and smooth operational delivery. This role is hands-on, requiring leadership on the floor, attention to detail, and a passion for hospitality. Monday - Saturday Business 


Key ResponsibilitiesOperations
  • Assist in managing daily bar and floor operations
  • Ensure high standards of service, cleanliness, and presentation
  • Oversee opening and closing procedures
  • Maintain stock control, ordering, and supplier relationships
  • Support compliance with licensing laws, health & safety, and company policies

Team Leadership
  • Lead by example during service
  • Train, coach, and develop team members
  • Support recruitment and onboarding of new staff
  • Manage rotas in line with business needs and labour targets
  • Handle staff performance and conduct issues where required

Customer Experience
  • Deliver outstanding guest service at all times
  • Handle customer feedback and resolve complaints professionally
  • Build a welcoming and engaging atmosphere
  • Support in driving repeat business and local engagement

Financial Performance
  • Support achievement of sales targets and KPIs
  • Monitor labour costs and productivity
  • Assist with cash handling, banking, and daily reporting
  • Identify opportunities to increase revenue and control costs

Compliance & Standards
  • Ensure adherence to licensing laws and Challenge 25 policy
  • Maintain food safety and hygiene standards
  • Follow all company procedures, including those related to tipping and service charge compliance
  • Ensure the venue operates in line with brand standards

Skills & Experience
  • Previous experience in a supervisory or assistant manager role in hospitality
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
  • Good understanding of bar operations and stock control
  • Financial awareness and commercial mindset
  • Personal licence (preferred but not essential)
