Role Summary
Position Overview: Bar Back
At Vandelay Hospitality Group, the Bar Back plays a vital role in ensuring exceptional service and a welcoming atmosphere for our guests. This position supports our service staff by maintaining the cleanliness and efficiency of the restaurant while anticipating and addressing guests' needs. Our goal is to make every guest feel welcome, comfortable, important, and relaxed, consistently exceeding expectations.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain Cleanliness: Ensure the overall cleanliness of the restaurant, bar, and service areas, adhering to health and safety standards.
Support Service Staff: Assist servers, bartenders, and hosts as needed, including understanding food descriptions and menu ingredients to better serve guests.
Food and Beverage Delivery:
Run food from the kitchen to guest tables, verifying each course for accuracy and completeness.
Deliver beverages from the bar to guest tables, ensuring drinks are always refreshed.
Table Maintenance:
Clear used dishes and silverware between courses and after guests leave.
Reset vacated tables and maintain the cleanliness of all tables and chairs in the assigned service area.
Team Communication: Work closely with servers, bartenders, and hosts to ensure efficient seating, table utilization, and overall guest satisfaction.
General Duties: Perform general cleaning tasks and other assigned responsibilities to uphold the highest standards of hospitality and service.
Requirements:
Detail oriented with strong communication skills and work ethic
Team oriented with a strong sense of punctuality and reliability
Ability to navigate a fast-paced environment while being positive, respectful, professional and having a genuine attitude towards guests and colleagues
Fluent in both written and spoken English
Be able to safely lift up to 50 pounds and easily maneuver plates, cases of water, chairs, linen and dining room tables
State required serving age (varies by state); TABC Certification, as required
Certified for food and alcohol service as is required by State and Local Agencies
The Bar Back is expected to perform all duties in a hospitable and professional manner, contributing to a seamless guest experience. This role is integral to maintaining the smooth operation of the restaurant and ensuring guests leave with a lasting positive impression.
