About the Opportunity
A Barback at Vandelay Hospitality Group plays a critical role in supporting bar operations and ensuring a smooth, efficient, and elevated guest experience. This position works closely with bartenders to keep the bar clean, stocked, organized, and fully prepared for service. Barbacks operate with urgency, attention to detail, and pride in execution, helping maintain the rhythm of service while upholding Vandelay’s hospitality and presentation standards. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys working as part of a tight-knit team, and is eager to grow their knowledge of beverages and service.
Core Responsibilities
Support bartenders throughout service to ensure efficient, seamless bar operations
Maintain cleanliness and organization behind the bar, including bar tops, wells, floors, sinks, and service areas
Wash, polish, and organize glassware to ensure consistent availability during service
Stock and replenish liquor, beer, wine, mixers, ice, garnishes, and bar supplies (LBW)
Assist with prep work including fresh juice, fruit prep, garnishes, and batch cocktails
Run food to the bar and dining room as needed to support service flow
Monitor inventory levels and communicate restocking needs to bartenders and managers
Follow opening, mid-shift, and closing procedures to ensure the bar is fully prepared and properly broken down
Maintain basic working knowledge of liquor, beer, wine, and cocktails to support the bar team effectively
Communicate clearly and professionally with bartenders, servers, and managers
Uphold Vandelay’s standards of cleanliness, organization, and hospitality at all times
Requirements
Must be at least 21 years old.
Positive attitude with a strong sense of responsibility and pride in providing excellent service.
Attention to detail and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
Team-oriented mindset, with reliable punctuality and a willingness to support teammates as needed.
Experience in an upscale, full-service restaurant is preferred but not required.
Eagerness to learn and grow within the position and hospitality industry.
Ability to follow direction, take initiative, and maintain a clean, organized workspace.
Certification for food handling as required by state and local regulations.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
Ability to work standing and walking for extended periods of time
