Role Summary

A Sushi Cook at Vandelay Hospitality Group is responsible for creating high-quality sushi dishes with precision, creativity, and an eye for detail. The Sushi Cook plays a key role in ensuring that our guests have an exceptional dining experience by preparing sushi that meets our standards of excellence. Our goal is to make everyone feel welcome, comfortable, important, and relaxed, while exceeding expectations of all.


Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare a variety of sushi dishes including sashimi, nigiri, and maki rolls

  • Ensure all sushi items are prepared with the highest quality ingredients and presented beautifully

  • Maintain a clean and organized sushi station

  • Adhere to all food safety and sanitation guidelines

  • Monitor food stock and place orders as needed

  • Collaborate with the kitchen team to ensure a seamless flow of service

  • Assist in developing new menu items and specials

  • Provide exceptional hospitality and engage with guests when necessary

  • Attend Food, Wine, and Team training opportunities


Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience as a Sushi Cook in a high-volume, upscale dining establishment

  • Extensive knowledge of sushi preparation, techniques, and ingredients

  • Strong knife skills and ability to work with precision and speed

  • Positive attitude, a sense of responsibility, and ownership of the position

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work well in a team-oriented environment

  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and organization

  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays

  • Punctuality and reliability are essential
