About the Opportunity

As an Assistant General Manager with Vandelay Companies, you’ll play a critical leadership role in bringing our vision to life each day. This position goes beyond supporting operations. It is an opportunity to drive performance, develop leaders, and help shape the culture of the restaurant.

You will partner closely with the General Manager to lead the business, ensuring excellence in execution, financial performance, and the overall guest experience. You’ll set the tone on the floor, lead with intention and accountability, and help build a team that consistently delivers at the highest level of hospitality.


Core Responsibilities

  • Partner with the General Manager to lead all aspects of the restaurant, including daily operations, team development, and financial performance

  • Take ownership of the guest experience, ensuring service is consistently polished, efficient, and aligned with Vandelay’s elevated standards

  • Lead, coach, and develop managers and team members, building a strong leadership bench and fostering a culture of accountability and growth

  • Maintain a strong, visible presence on the floor, driving service standards, pacing, and real-time problem solving

  • Model warm, refined hospitality and set clear expectations for team performance and guest engagement

  • Oversee scheduling, shift execution, and labor management to ensure operational efficiency and alignment with business needs

  • Support and influence key financial drivers, including labor, COGS, inventory management, and overall cost control

  • Partner with culinary leadership to ensure consistency in menu execution, product quality, and presentation

  • Lead hiring, onboarding, and training initiatives, ensuring the team is well-prepared and aligned with Vandelay standards

  • Uphold all food safety, sanitation, and cleanliness standards, maintaining a safe and organized environment

  • Ensure compliance with company policies and all local, state, and federal regulations

  • Support inventory, ordering, and product management to maintain quality and control costs

  • Maintain the physical and aesthetic integrity of the restaurant, ensuring a polished and inviting environment

  • Lead pre-shift meetings and ensure clear, consistent communication across all teams

  • Analyze guest feedback and operational performance to identify opportunities for improvement and drive results

  • Address performance concerns and uphold disciplinary standards with professionalism, fairness, and consistency


Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor's Degree in Restaurant / Hospitality Management or similar field of study strongly preferred

  • 2+ years of full-service restaurant experience preferred, but not required

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays 

  • Trustworthy, detail-obsessed and open to constructive feedback

  • Exceptional communication skills both written and verbal 

  • Desire and natural ability to with our engage guests, exuding an infectious commitment to guest service at all times
