Description

We’re on the hunt for the latest addition to our kitchen team at The Walkers of Whitehall.

We’re a central London pub with a serious interest in food. Our menu combines elevated British pub classics with modern European dishes, with fresh, seasonal produce at the heart of what we do. We make almost everything in-house, from our sauces and stocks to our desserts — the bread and ice cream are about as far as we’re prepared to cheat.

We’re looking for a Sous Chef to work closely with our Head Chef and help run the kitchen day to day. You’ll have a genuine influence on our food, from developing new dishes and seasonal menus to maintaining standards and developing the team.

Our ambition is simple: to make The Walkers of Whitehall a proper food institution in Westminster. We’re looking for someone who wants to help us do it.

What we’re looking for
  • A genuine passion for food and hospitality
  • Strong technical culinary ability
  • Culinary training or equivalent professional experience
  • A natural team player who enjoys working as part of a brigade
  • The ability to lead, motivate and develop a kitchen team
  • A stable work history and a track record of progression
  • A strong understanding of food safety, hygiene and compliance
  • The confidence to take responsibility and make decisions during service
  • A 9+ on RateMyChives, not essential, but certainly a bonus

You’ll be involved in:

  • Menu development and seasonal specials
  • Leading the brigade during service
  • Training and developing junior chefs
  • Maintaining food quality and consistency
  • Kitchen organisation and stock control
  • Food safety, hygiene and compliance
  • Helping shape the direction of the kitchen and our food offering

This is a role for someone who wants more than simply running a section. We want you to have a voice in the kitchen and help shape where we go next.

What we offer
  • Share of tronc
  • Free meals while working
  • Company pension scheme
  • 28 days’ holiday
  • Share Save scheme
  • Access to Young’s training programmes and apprenticeships
  • Genuine opportunities for progression — many of our current team have worked their way up through the ranks
  • A strong influence on the menu, working closely with the Head Chef and General Manager
  • Away days and masterclasses, including some rather less conventional ones — shooting, fishing and even pig farming have all made the itinerary
  • A great location in central London with excellent transport links
  • The chance to join a full kitchen team of talented, ambitious and genuinely good people

If you’re a chef who wants to make your mark, develop your skills and help build something rather good, we’d like to hear from you.
