Supply Chain Sustainability Manager

MORE ABOUT THE ROLE


We are looking for a passionate and highly skilled sustainability manager to help us embed sustainability and drive change within our supply chain team.  This is a new role, reflecting the increasing focus on this space for our business, and will be responsible for gathering the data’s and information and drive various initiatives, to reach the goals in our UK & Ireland sustainability roadmap linked to supply chain.


The role requires both the technical skills of a sustainability specialist and ability to cut through and simplify what is often a complex area so that people understand what’s required of them.  As such the ability to communicate effectively, with impact, both verbally and in writing is essential. 


You will work with cross-functional teams : Western Europe Procurement, Supply Chain and quality teams, and all our suppliers (account managers, sustainability managers, quality managers).


Here’s some examples of the work we’re doing:

  • We have committed to be Net Zero by 2040 or sooner and are working with Liverpool University on a research project to create the Net Zero restaurant of the future
  • We worked with leading animal welfare charities to develop our Poultry Welfare policy and are committed to continuously improving standards, in 2019 being the first in our sector to sign up the Better Chicken Commitment and being recognised as the Top of the Pecking Order of chicken welfare in our sector according to World Animal Protection;
  •  In 2018 we announced our nutrition commitment, with a target to reduce calories across the menu by 20% by 2025;
  • All the oil we use in our restaurants is recycled into biofuel;
  • We have recently become members of the Sustainable Restaurant Association to help us improve our environmental and social impacts

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Work with cross-functional teams to implement priority sustainability projects e.g. the mapping of our supply chain, carbon-reducing initiatives etc. and assist teams in tracking progress by measuring KPIs
  • Help develop systems for gathering sustainability data, measuring results and producing regular reports/summaries for internal and external communication
  • Monitor trends and industry best practices on sustainability (linked to supply chain) in the UK.
  • Supply Chain carbon footprint and limitation of GHG : Accumulate suppliers targets on reduction of carbon foot print, and work with KFC UKI logistic team and KFC Western Europe procurement team to gather data’s and analyse it toward our carbon reduction commitments
  • Deforestation limitation : Monitoring our progress toward sustainability sourcing of soya, Follow-up of the chicken suppliers regarding the use of sustainable soy, and their action plan around this topics. Follow-up on sustainable paper / sustainable palm topics
  • Ethical sourcing : Analyse the risk mapping of the supply chain (partnership with SEDEX and Stop the Traffic), and develop the non-conformity management of the suppliers on ethical issues (action plan, additional requirements…). Help to identify the potential source of progress within this area (additional certification requirement…)
  • Working on and provide KPI’s for our IMS and our ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 aimed certifications
  • Attendance at Working Groups / Forums / stakeholder meetings in the UK
  • Lead/support special projects as and when required

WHAT WE’D LOVE FROM YOU

EXPERIENCE

  • 5+ years’ experience in a sustainability-focused role in retail, catering, or food industry
  • Common knowledge on GHG, carbon footprint analysis and data’s collection tool, energy technologies
  • Knowledge on wider environmental and sustainability issues such as UK environmental legislation and compliance
  • Proficient at managing sustainability reporting to demonstrate progress against KPIs and targets; ideally experience in working with an IMS and having set up an ISO 14001 or 50001)
  • Knowledgeable about external groups and partners on sustainability
  • Keen interest in sustainability beyond traditional CSR programmes

ABOUT YOU

  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Effective team working, as you’ll need to be able to develop relationships across all functions of the business, and all levels, to find the right answers, or to get the help you need to deliver a project.
