Position
Overview
The Bridges
Golf Club is seeking an experienced, motivated, and service-driven Head Golf
Professional to lead our golf operations in San Ramon, California.
The Head
Golf Professional is responsible for the overall day-to-day management of golf
operations, including Golf Shop and Player Services, tournament sales and
execution, staffing and payroll, merchandising and inventory, revenue
generation, financial reporting, and guest satisfaction.
The ideal
candidate is a hands-on leader with strong golf operations experience,
excellent customer service and team-management skills, and the ability to drive
revenue while maintaining high operational standards.
Key
Responsibilities
Golf
Operations & Guest Service
- Oversee daily golf operations and ensure
a consistently high level of service.
- Provide exceptional service to golfers,
members, guests, tournament clients, vendors, and employees.
- Maintain a visible, hands-on leadership
presence throughout the operation.
- Resolve guest concerns promptly and
professionally.
- Oversee Golf Shop and Player Services
operations, including service standards and daily procedures.
- Conduct regular inspections of the Golf
Shop, cart staging areas, and surrounding areas.
- Ensure daily operational checklists and
required procedures are completed.
- Assist with member events, tournaments,
outside events, and Junior Golf programs.
- Provide golf instruction and lessons as
appropriate.
Tournament
Sales & Events
- Actively develop and grow tournament,
corporate outing, charity, and group golf sales.
- Respond to tournament inquiries and
leads in a timely and professional manner.
- Conduct property tours and present
tournament packages, pricing, and services.
- Prepare proposals and coordinate
contracts, deposits, event details, and required documentation.
- Maintain communication with tournament
organizers from initial inquiry through event completion.
- Coordinate tournament requirements with
Golf Operations, Food & Beverage, Sales, Course Maintenance, and other
departments.
- Oversee tournament setup and execution,
including registration, scoring, cart assignments, signage, and contests.
- Develop relationships with corporations,
charities, associations, and golf groups to generate new and repeat
business.
- Follow up with tournament clients to
encourage repeat bookings.
Team
Leadership, Scheduling & Payroll
- Recruit, train, schedule, supervise, and
develop Golf Shop and Player Services employees.
- Establish clear expectations for
performance, attendance, productivity, and guest service.
- Prepare employee schedules according to
business volume and approved labor budgets.
- Review and approve timecards, punches,
missed punches, meal periods, overtime, and payroll records.
- Complete payroll duties accurately and
within company deadlines.
- Monitor labor hours and proactively
control overtime and payroll expenses.
- Provide coaching, performance feedback,
and corrective action when necessary and in accordance with company
policies and applicable laws.
- Maintain a professional, accountable,
and team-oriented work environment.
Merchandising
& Monthly Inventory
- Oversee Golf Shop purchasing, receiving,
tagging, pricing, displaying, and merchandising.
- Manage merchandise inventory and
maintain appropriate inventory controls.
- Conduct and oversee monthly physical
inventory counts.
- Reconcile inventory results and
investigate shortages, overages, and discrepancies.
- Maintain accurate inventory records
within the POS/inventory system.
- Manage Open-to-Buy planning, inventory
levels, margins, turnover, and aging merchandise.
- Coordinate merchandise promotions,
sales, vendor programs, and demo days.
- Maintain proper controls over
merchandise, cash handling, and POS transactions.
Golf Cart
Fleet & Player Services
- Oversee the condition, cleanliness, and
operation of the golf cart fleet and Player Services equipment.
- Coordinate routine maintenance, warranty
work, repairs, and replacement needs.
- Monitor and order operational supplies.
- Ensure cart and Player Services areas
remain clean, organized, safe, and professional.
Revenue,
Memberships & Marketing
- Promote memberships, card programs,
tournaments, lessons, merchandise, and other revenue-generating golf
programs.
- Develop promotions and special events to
increase rounds, revenue, golfer engagement, and repeat business.
- Identify opportunities to maximize
tee-time utilization and golf revenue.
- Collaborate with Sales, Marketing, Food
& Beverage, Course Maintenance, and other departments.
- Participate in golf-related social media
and promotional initiatives.
- Monitor online guest reviews and assist
with appropriate responses and operational follow-up.
Financial
& Administrative Responsibilities
- Prepare and review daily operational and
financial reports.
- Assist with annual budgets, forecasts,
revenue projections, and expense management.
- Monitor golf revenue, rounds, tournament
sales, merchandise performance, payroll, labor, and other key operating
metrics.
- Review financial performance and
identify opportunities to increase revenue and control expenses.
- Assist with purchasing, invoice review,
vendor management, and internal controls.
- Maintain accurate operational and
financial records.
Qualifications
- PGA Member in good standing strongly
preferred.
- PGA Level 2 or higher required; PGA
Class A Professional preferred.
- Minimum four years of experience as an
Assistant Golf Professional or comparable golf operations leadership
experience.
- Daily Fee, Resort, or high-volume golf
experience preferred.
- Tournament sales, coordination, and
execution experience strongly preferred.
- Experience managing Golf Shop and Player
Services operations.
- Experience with employee scheduling,
timekeeping, and payroll administration.
- Experience with monthly inventory,
merchandise controls, and Open-to-Buy management.
- Knowledge of budgeting, forecasting,
P&L statements, expense controls, labor management, and financial
reporting.
- Strong computer, POS, and golf
management system skills.
- Demonstrated ability to generate revenue
through tournaments, memberships, merchandise, promotions, instruction,
and golf programs.
- Minimum two years of college education
preferred.
- Strong leadership, communication,
organizational, and customer-service skills.
- Professional appearance and demeanor
with a positive, approachable attitude.
- Ability to work independently, exercise
sound judgment, and take ownership of the operation.
- Must thrive in a fast-paced,
team-oriented golf environment.
Schedule
& Physical Demands
This is a
full-time, hands-on management position requiring 40-45 hours per week.
- Must be available for early mornings,
evenings, weekends, tournaments, special events, and most holidays as
required.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended
periods.
- Ability to bend, reach, stoop, push,
pull, and perform repetitive movements.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in
varying weather conditions.
- Ability to safely lift, carry, push, and
move golf merchandise, supplies, and equipment as required.
- Ability to operate golf carts and
related golf operations equipment.
- Regular on-property presence and active
participation in daily operations are essential.
Compensation
& Incentives
Base Salary:
$78,000 annually, based on experience, PGA credentials, qualifications, and
overall fit.
Following
successful completion of the first 90 days, the Head Golf Professional will be
eligible for performance-based incentives tied to established operational,
financial, tournament sales, service, and revenue goals.
Additional
earning opportunities may include approved golf instruction and related
programs.
