Description
Banjo, our brasserie-style restaurant in one of St Helier's grandest buildings, is going through something of an evolution, and JPRestaurants is recruiting an experienced manager to lead and drive this expansion.

Banjo is located in an historic and restored former Victorian Gentleman's Club, right next to the market in the centre of St Helier. The core of Banjo's attraction is (and will continue to be) its double-dining room brasserie and cocktail bar, and the company is also expanding into hosting events, functions, and live music (think DJs an acoustic gigs), alongside its boutique-hotel rooms above.

We seek a General Manager who can offer motivation, guidance, inspiration, and leadership, and has the attributes to bring the best out of our team members and ensure we provide our customers with outstanding service. Experience in running and managing events is also highly desired.

Our managers possess excellent people management skills, demonstrate a high degree of computer literacy, and have the verbal and written communication skills to communicate with customers confidently and effectively. A strong track record in management of premium-casual restaurants and the ability to manage costs and reservations are essential, as is a proven ability to develop, train, and motivate staff.

What we offer:

This role has an annual basic salary of £42,500 to £45,000.

Our managers, head chefs, and senior employees participate in our Quarterly Bonus Scheme, with on-target bonuses of up to 20% (or more) of salary dependent on restaurant trade and individual performance, with potential 10-20% bonuses bringing on-target earnings to between £47,000 and £54,000 per annum.

Our employees also have access to a generous benefits package, including:
• Meals provided while on duty
• Staff discount across our restaurant and café businesses
• Christmas Day and Boxing Day off, as well as your birthday (after one year’s employment)

It's important to say that we've moved away from tips, and for good reason: our team's remuneration is written into contracts and bonus schemes, and isn't reliant on gratuities - for more information go to https://jprestaurants.com/news/living-wage-employers

Right to work:

For this advertised role, we invite applications from both candidates either:
• who have an immediate right to work in Jersey or the United Kingdom (UK or Irish passport, EU Settled or Pre-Settled Status, or Indefinite Leave to Remain)
• who may require a work permit and visa

For candidates who would require a visa to travel to the United Kingdom and Jersey, the full process of obtaining and visa can take between 6 and 12 weeks.

Contract and hours:

This is a permanent, full-time role.

A work-life balance is important to everyone in the business and, while we appreciate when colleagues can help out further in busier periods, we strive to ensure that everyone works a 5-day week on a regular basis.

Accommodation:

The Company can arrange accommodation for those moving to Jersey. Accommodation is more expensive in Jersey than other parts of the British Isles, and accommodation in the local market ranges from approximately £800 (single room) to £1,500 (one-bedroom flat) per month.

Our business:

JPRestaurants operates restaurants and cafes in Jersey (Channel Islands, British Isles), serving fresh, innovative, and healthy food to thousands of customers and visitors each year.

Our restaurants offer premium-casual dining experiences in unique and captivating settings: Oyster Box, on the edge of St Brelade’s Bay, Banjo, a grand brasserie in the heart of St Helier, and Jersey Crab Shack, also on the beach of St Brelade’s Bay. Our Café Ubé outlets (located at Jersey Airport, Elizabeth Ferry Terminal, and across St Helier) serve a range of coffees, hot and cold drinks, and fresh and homemade Grab & Go breakfast and lunch items.

We offer fantastic choice for customers with allergies and dietary requirements, and provide our teams with detailed specifications and information for addressing queries. Across all of our restaurants and cafes, we’ve placed an emphasis on digitalisation and processes, in order to enhance our customers’ experience, ensure our service runs smoothly, and build a better working environment for our colleagues.

JPRestaurants has over 75 years of history, starting in 1946 as a small, family-owned pottery studio which become one of the Island's busiest and most popular tourist attractions. The coffee bar on the site of the ceramics factory and showroom was the beginning of Jersey Pottery Restaurants (which is now called JPRestaurants), which is still family-owned and managed by the third generation. As an established and popular local business, we look to work for the benefit of our community and environment through careful management of our suppliers, good working conditions, and initiatives to support others less fortunate than us.
