ABOUT THE COMPANY 

Birley Bakery is the newest opening by the club owner and entrepreneur Robin Birley; owner of prestigious private members’ clubs 5 Hertford Street and Oswald’s in London.  

Opening summer 2025, Birley Bakery will be located on the Upper East Side’s Madison Avenue, and aims to create a warm and welcoming environment, inspired by the classic concept of Boulangerie-Patisserie. We will fulfil the need of every household craving exceptional quality, by delivering simple yet elegantly crafted bread, pastries and desserts.   

POSITION SUMMARY 

The Server Assistants at the Birley Bakery play a crucial role in providing an exceptional dining and beverage experience through friendly, attentive, and professional service and impeccable order execution. Server Assistants work closely with the Server and front-of-house team members to create a welcoming atmosphere and ensure the highest possible level of customer satisfaction, elevating Birley Bakery’s brand and service standards at all times. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • To have a good knowledge of the menu and styles of service. 
  • To take/ bring food and beverage orders efficiently and professionally ensuring all information is correct. 
  • To be fully conversant with the table lay-up and mise-en-place prior to, during and after service and to assist with re-setting. 
  • To actively assist the Servers in the service of food and beverage. 
  • To promote a good team spirit and good relationship within the bakery and kitchen brigades. 
  • To undertake cashiering duties and take responsibility for the recording of all items on bills, process payments and adhere to correct credit policies. 
  • To be familiar with and implement any relevant legislation i.e., liquor licensing. 
  • To inform supervisors of all guest comments and requirements that cannot be resolved immediately. 
  • To provide friendly, courteous and professional service at all times. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS) 

  • 1+ years of serving assistant experience in a premium hospitality or bakery/café environment. 
  • Working knowledge of espresso-based drink preparation is a plus. 
  • Strong sense of organization, multitasking skills, communication, attention to detail, and calm under pressure. 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; capable of mentoring junior team members. 
  • Flexibility to support other departments and collaborate across the café and bakery team. 
  • Friendly, guest-focused, and team-oriented. 
  • Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 25 lbs. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT 

  • Ability to be flexible with job demands and open-minded when being asked to complete tasks. 
  • Ability to operate and use all the equipment necessary to run the bakery. 
  • Ability to operate with grace under pressure. 
  • Ability to work varied hours/days (early mornings, weekends, holidays) as business dictates. 
  • Ability to stand for up to 8-10 hours a day.
