Birley Bakery is the newest venture from club owner and entrepreneur Robin Birley, the force behind London’s prestigious private members’ clubs 5 Hertford Street and Oswald’s. 
Launching summer 2025 on Madison Avenue in NYC’s Upper East Side, Birley Bakery brings a warm and welcoming take on the classic Boulangerie-Patisserie, offering simple, elegant breads, pastries, and desserts made to the highest standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To assist the Shop Manager to maximize sales and service levels within the shop.
  • To maintain the cash handling procedures conducted within the shop and for the security of any monies held on site.
  • To lead by example and ensure that high standards of customer service are practiced by all staff and are maintained.
  • Adhere to Health & Safety standards, and assist in training staff on procedures and compliance.
  • To ensure that working practices are followed to ensure that food safety law is complied with as set by the company and the governmental departments.
  • To comply with the rules and regulations and terms of your employment as set by the company.
  • To comply with any reasonable request or instruction as required by your manager, which would form part of your normal working duties.
  • To attend training courses as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS)

  • Previous experience working in a retail or hospitality environment is required.
  • Experience of supervising a team is required.
  • Willingness to learn new systems and adapt to a developing business.
  • Experience with POS systems (e.g. Tevalis) is a plus.
  • Good level of English.
  • Friendly, approachable, and professional.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent time management skills with ability to multi-task, prioritize and organize.
  • A passion for the hospitality service.
  • Welcoming and positive attitude with ethics which support our values and culture.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Ability to be flexible with job demands and open-minded when being asked to complete tasks. 
  • Ability to operate and use all equipment necessary.
  • Ability to operate with grace under pressure. 
  • Ability to work varied hours/days as business dictates. 
  • Ability to stand for up to 8-10 hours a day. 
  • Ability to move or handle equipment throughout the shop generally weighing up to 50 pounds.
