Location: One of the most elegant country house hotels in the Cotswolds, Buckland Manor is set in ten acres of stunning grounds. With 4 AA red stars, 3 AA rosettes, and a member of Relais & Châteaux, Buckland Manor offers employees the opportunity to work within a traditional, yet friendly English country house hotel.

SERVICE CHARGE-We pay our team service charge each month! This service charge all goes into one pot, and 100% of that service charge is then shared amongst all the team at the hotel-every penny received is paid out to the team.
Service charge can be in the region of £305 a month (around £3,600 per year) over and above base pay, for a full time employee.

The hotel may be able to offer on-site staff accommodation in order to help the newest members of the team settle into life at the hotel and local area, plus free parking is available on-site.

 Job Summary

The Head Chef is responsible for overseeing all aspects of kitchen operations, including menu development, food preparation, staff management, inventory control, food safety compliance, and maintaining high standards of quality and presentation. The Head Chef leads the kitchen team to deliver exceptional dining experiences while ensuring efficiency, profitability, and consistency.

Key Responsibilities Kitchen Leadership

  • Lead, supervise, and motivate kitchen staff, including sous chefs, line cooks, and kitchen assistants.
  • Schedule staff shifts and manage labor costs.
  • Train, mentor, and develop team members.
  • Foster a positive, professional, and productive work environment.

Food Preparation & Quality Control

  • Design and update menus based on customer preferences, seasonality, and business objectives.
  • Ensure all dishes are prepared and presented to established standards.
  • Monitor food quality, portion control, and consistency.
  • Manage special dietary requirements and allergen controls.

Inventory & Cost Management

  • Order food supplies and kitchen equipment as required.
  • Monitor inventory levels and reduce waste.
  • Negotiate with suppliers where applicable.
  • Control food costs and maintain budget targets.

Health & Safety Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with all food safety, hygiene, and sanitation regulations.
  • Conduct regular kitchen inspections.
  • Maintain accurate food safety records and documentation.
  • Ensure proper storage, handling, and labeling of food products.

Operational Management

  • Oversee daily kitchen operations during service.
  • Coordinate with front-of-house management to ensure smooth service delivery.
  • Manage equipment maintenance and repairs.
  • Implement and improve kitchen procedures and standards.

Required Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Head Chef, Executive Chef, Sous Chef, or similar leadership role.
  • Culinary qualification or relevant professional training preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of food safety and hygiene regulations.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong financial awareness and cost-control skills.

  • Menu planning and recipe development.
  • Staff training and performance management.
  • Inventory and supplier management.
  • Budgeting and cost analysis.
  • Knowledge of current food trends and culinary techniques.
