Tucked away from the buzz of Islington, the Canonbury Tavern is a local favourite in the heart of one of North London’s most charming residential neighbourhoods. Recognised by Time Out as one of the Top 10 Beer Gardens in London, we’re known for our beautiful outdoor space, warm interiors, and a kitchen that delivers both heritage pub classics and creative, seasonal dishes.

With Head Chef Munir at the helm, we take pride in doing things properly, using fresh ingredients, developing our team, and giving our guests the kind of experience they come back for.


About the Role

We’re on the lookout for a Sous Chef to join our passionate kitchen team. This is an exciting opportunity to step into a leadership role where you’ll have real input into menu development, work with quality ingredients, and grow your career within a supportive, professional environment.

You’ll be working alongside a talented Head Chef and a strong brigade, helping to maintain high standards, inspire the team, and contribute to the continued success of one of Young’s most beloved pubs.

What We’re Looking For

You might be an experienced Sous Chef or a Senior CDP ready for the next step , either way, we’re looking for someone who’s:

  • Passionate about fresh, seasonal food

  • A natural leader who inspires and supports their team

  • Organised and confident managing kitchen operations, from rotas to food safety

  • Creative and eager to contribute to menu development

  • Commercially aware, with an understanding of GP and labour control

  • A strong communicator who works well across kitchen and front-of-house teams
