Role Overview

We are hiring a Payroll Team Manager to lead our India payroll operations.

You will manage a pod of payroll team members and work closely with UK payroll leadership. You will be accountable for the accurate and efficient processing of client payrolls, while maintaining strong client relationships built on trust and consistency.

This role requires strong communication, operational control, team leadership, and deep experience in international payroll, with a focus on UK processes.

Key ResponsibilitiesTeam Leadership
  • Manage a team of payroll professionals and oversee day-to-day operations

  • Set quarterly goals for the team and individuals, and track performance

  • Conduct regular 1:1s and team meetings

  • Train new hires and ensure structured onboarding plans

  • Support hiring and recruitment for the payroll team

  • Act as backup for other global payroll managers when required

Payroll Operations
  • Own end-to-end payroll processing across multiple clients and pay cycles

  • Ensure payroll KPIs, SLAs, and deadlines are consistently met

  • Allocate payrolls across the team, balancing workloads and ensuring backup coverage

  • Support the team on complex payroll queries and operational issues

  • Handle advanced payrolls and lead improvement initiatives where required

  • Act as escalation point for client issues and ensure timely resolution


Compliance & Governance
  • Ensure compliance with HMRC, pensions regulator, and all statutory requirements

  • Ensure adherence to GDPR and data security standards

  • ensure the department is fulfilling all legislative needs on behalf of clients e.g P60s, P11Ds

  • Ensure all processes and controls are followed consistently

Collaboration & Process Improvement
  • Work cross-functionally with other payroll managers, implementation, and admin teams

  • Support rollout of new processes and working practices

  • Represent the payroll function in internal and external forums

  • Partner with leadership to troubleshoot issues and improve ways of working

  • Drive mini-projects and initiatives to improve efficiency and scalability

  • Support special projects within the payroll function

Candidate Profile
  • 15+ years of payroll experience

  • Strong experience in international payroll, with UK payroll specialization

  • Minimum 5+ years managing teams

  • Experience managing client-facing payroll operations at scale

  • Strong understanding of payroll compliance, HMRC, and statutory requirements

  • Ability to operate in a global, matrixed environment

  • Strong problem-solving and operational leadership skills
