We are now seeking a Payroll Team Manager. UK Payroll Team Manager:
CIPP (or equivalent) is highly desirable but not essential for this UK Payroll Team Manager role as is proven experience in a Hospitality sector bureau or large volume payroll environment.
Reporting to the UK Director of Payroll the ideal candidate will have 5+ years of payroll management experience within a Bureau environment and/or handling multiple high-volume payrolls, dealing with, and being successful with, a customer’s requests and escalations.
Duties & Responsibilities
Responsible for the effective management of the day-to-day payroll operation and performance of your payroll team
Managing a team of 5 direct reports, setting quarterly goals for the team and for individuals and assessing whether they have been achieved
Ensure payroll team KPIs are met
Regular one-to-ones with members of your team
Host regular team meetings, essential when working remotely/hybrid set-up
Train new members of the team and ensure they have a training plan for when they begin at Harri
Act as a backup for other payroll team managers when they are out of the office
Oversee and ensure all deadlines are met in accordance with client policies, Harri SLAs, HMRC and pensions regulator guidelines as well as GDPR and data security considerations
Supporting the team with complex queries and operational issues
To be responsible for more advanced payrolls including project management for improvement where necessary
Working alongside other payroll team managers to ensure the smooth roll-out of new processes/working procedures to the teams
Be a representative of the payroll department in external and internal meetings
Work closely with colleagues and senior management to troubleshoot processes, modernise our ways of working and deliver an outstanding payroll service.
Ensure all processes and procedures are adhered to and standards upheld
Work on and delegate mini-projects to improve the payroll function
Be a part of the payroll team recruitment process
Full end to end payroll processing for a variety of pay frequencies
Forward planning and resourcing to ensure the department is fulfilling all legislative needs on behalf of clients e.g P60s, P11Ds
Allocation of payrolls, considering peaks and troughs of individual work loads and ensuring there are back up payrollers for each
Be a point of escalation for clients to help resolve issues in the short and medium-term
Work with payroll implementation and payroll administration teams to ensure robust and scalable processes are in place for growth
Lead and assist with special projects in and around the payroll function
The successful candidates will have the following skills, experience and qualifications:
Excellent knowledge of UK legislation and payroll-related tax matters.
Proven experience with various payroll software, HMRC submissions, faster payments/BACS, Auto Enrolment, Payroll Journals, Pension submissions, P11D’s, Reporting, etc.
Intermediate user of Microsoft Office Suite with advanced Excel skills.
Demonstrate time management, administration and prioritisation skills with attention to detail.
Experience of setting goals and managing direct reports
Excellent communication and organisational skills with a commercial focus.
Communicate and support cross-functional goals and objectives.
Be enthusiastic and passionate about providing clients with the highest level of service.
Understanding of GDPR compliance and ISO quality standards is desirable.
While some training will be provided, we expect the suitable candidate to have a high level of integrity, a professional attitude, be a self-starter, dynamic with good interpersonal skills.
Experience with an Apple Mac desirable
Some travel will be required to the Head Office in London and relevant customer sites.
