Site Engineer - 3D Laser Scanning

Criterion Capital is seeking a Surveying Site Engineer with experience in 3D laser scanning to join our team and support the development of our in-house scanning capability across our projects in Prime Central London.

The role will combine site-based laser scanning with point cloud processing and coordination of downstream Revit modelling. You will work across a range of development projects, carrying out high-accuracy surveys of existing buildings, structural elements and MEP installations, while coordinating with contractors, consultants and specialist external teams to ensure accurate and high-quality deliverables.

This is an opportunity for a technically capable surveying professional with 2+ years’ experience to develop their expertise within a growing development environment and contribute to the development of our 3D scanning and digital surveying capabilities.

The Role

The Surveying Site Engineer will be responsible for carrying out 3D laser scanning surveys across our projects, managing the quality of captured data and supporting the process from site capture through to point cloud and Revit deliverables.

Key responsibilities include:

• Carry out 3D laser scanning surveys of existing buildings, structural elements and MEP installations using Leica, NavVis, Faro, Trimble or similar equipment.
• Plan and undertake scanning surveys to achieve the required level of accuracy and agreed project tolerances.
• Establish survey control where required, including the use of GPS/GNSS positioning and total station integration.
• Set up registration targets and check points to ensure accurate registration across multiple scanning positions.
• Coordinate site access and survey arrangements with contractors, consultants and other project stakeholders.
• Work safely within active construction environments and comply with relevant site, CDM and HSE requirements.
• Process and register point cloud data using software such as Leica Cyclone, Register 360, Autodesk ReCap, CloudCompare or equivalent.
• Review and validate point cloud data to ensure accuracy, completeness and quality before it is issued to downstream teams.
• Liaise with specialist external scanning and point cloud processing contractors where required and review their deliverables against the agreed scope.
• Prepare and maintain survey briefs, including required levels of detail, survey standards and acceptance criteria.
• Work with external Revit modelling teams to ensure captured survey information is accurately translated into coordinated models.
• Support the development and implementation of scanning procedures, workflows and quality assurance processes.
• Identify and resolve issues relating to scan coverage, registration, occlusions and data quality.
• Work closely with Design, Construction, Commercial and Facilities teams to support the wider use of scanning and digital survey information across the project lifecycle.
• Maintain accurate records of surveys, scan data, deliverables and project information.
• Contribute to the development of the company's 3D scanning capability and identify opportunities to improve existing processes and outputs.

About You

• Minimum 2 years' experience in surveying, geomatics, engineering or a related field, with practical experience in 3D laser scanning.
• Degree or relevant qualification in Building Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering or a related discipline is desirable.
• Practical experience using 3D laser scanning equipment such as Leica, NavVis, Faro, Trimble or similar.
• Experience with point cloud processing and registration software such as Leica Cyclone, Register 360, Autodesk ReCap, CloudCompare or equivalent.
• Good understanding of how point cloud data is used to support Revit and BIM modelling workflows.
• Understanding of survey control, coordinate systems and geospatial referencing.
• Experience surveying existing buildings, construction sites or complex environments is desirable.
• Familiarity with BIM processes and standards, including ISO 19650, is desirable.
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate, high-quality survey information.
• Good organisational and communication skills, with the ability to coordinate effectively with contractors, consultants and external specialists.
• Ability to manage multiple site visits, surveys and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Proactive and technically minded, with an interest in developing new digital surveying and scanning capabilities.
• Comfortable working both independently on site and collaboratively with wider project teams.
