SUMMARY
The Director of Supply Chain reports to the VP of Supply Chain and is responsible for the implementation of the supply chain strategy to support overall company goals. This includes implementing best practices with respect to sourcing, cost and service level agreements, contract negotiations, vendor management/selection, and risk management through hedging strategies to stabilize price volatility and margins. This position is based out of the Cafe Rio Corporate Support Center in Salt Lake City, UT.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Purchasing & Distribution of All Products:
· Source the highest and freshest quality ingredients that meet or exceed the company’s standards within the appropriate cost parameters
· Develop strategic relationships with vendors leveraging their knowledge and resources to set the company up for success
· Planning and directing the sourcing, testing, and delivery of all products that go into the restaurants (food, supplies, smallwares, equipment, etc.)
· Source new vendors and create professional relationships with new and existing vendors that can support the company’s strategic plan
· Support and manage multiple RFP processes
· Monitor commodity markets and proactively identify, discuss, and resolve potential issues
· Develop, implement, and continuously refine demand planning, procurement, supplier management, and logistics
· Implement best practices and improve process efficiencies throughout the entire Supply Chain process
· Think outside of the box on potential strategies, with intense focus on improved efficiency and cost management
Service Contracts and Product Specifications:
· Negotiate with all manufacturers and distributors for consistency and best available terms
· Ensure cost-effective supply chain with exceptional service levels
· Ensure best quality and pricing on all items
· Create measures and tools to hold vendors accountable to service and quality standards
· Create, maintain, evaluate, and update specifications for all products to meet the needs of culinary and operations
· Set clear partnership expectations including cost, customer service, prioritizations, etc.
· Develop and monitor key performance indicators to ensure partnership alignment on supplier performance
New Products & Processes:
· Source new products and work cross-functionally with other departments to ensure successful testing and roll-out
· Make recommendations to add new products and/or change current products, procedures, and processes to ensure the most favorable result
· Oversee a continual comprehensive RPF process for all major categories to ensure we continue to be competitive
· Stay current with packaging, pricing, and new innovative products on the market
· Source products looking at cost savings, improved quality, safety, environmentally friendly, and cutting-edge technology
· Provide leadership and support for the purchasing and distribution strategy for Cafe Rio’s Central Craft Kitchen
Profit and Loss:
· Proactively develop and test strategic alternatives to current processes that can be implemented quickly in the case of emergency (i.e., Act of God pricing, etc.)
· Evaluate risks in supply chain, develop contingency plans, and implement redundancy, where needed, to ensure continuity of supply of critical products
· Develop forecasting, inventory management, and supplier capacity management to ensure optimum and cost-effective product availability
· Bring a strong financial acumen and solid understanding of how supply chain decisions impact the broader organization
· Assist in building the month supply chain deck for presentation to the executive team
· Monitor and evaluate freight costs and find freight efficiencies to ensure the lowest expense
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
· Bachelors or master’s degree in Protein Science, Ag Business, Supply Chain, Business or other related fields preferred
· Demonstrates strong ethical and professional standards that align with Cafe Rio values
· 5 plus years of progressive, relevant strategic sourcing experience in the foodservice industry
· Extensive experience and knowledge around buying fresh proteins; pork, chicken, beef, seafood
· Builds strong relationships internally and externally
· Has demonstrated the ability to lead people to great results while working in the trenches with the team
· Ability to think critically and execute longer-term strategy
· Ability to organize and manage multiple competing priorities and meet deadlines
· Thorough understanding of COGs variables including pricing, mix shifts, and inventory swings
· Knowledge of fresh (never frozen) raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, commodities, forecasting, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods
· Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel
· Experience with ArrowStream and NCR back-office platforms a plus
· Skill in developing high-performance teams and is a strong team player
· Skill in assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects, and demands
· Strong written and verbal communication skills
