Staff Accountant


Description

The staff accountant's responsibilities include maintaining financial records and reports, performing account reconciliations, assisting with budget and close processes, conducting internal audits, and maintaining accounts payable documentation. You will also be assisting the accounting manager as needed and respond to information requests by management and for auditing purposes.

To be successful as staff accountant, you should be able to accurately maintain a general ledger and ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). An outstanding staff accountant should also have excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills.

Staff Accountant Responsibilities:
  • Maintaining financial reports, records, and general ledger accounts.
  • Compiles and analyzes financial information to prepare and book journal entries to the general ledger.
  • Reconciles and balances general ledger accounts.
  • Prepares or assists in preparation of schedules to be provided to lenders, investors, and auditors.
  • Performs account research and analyses to determine trends, estimates, and significant changes.
  • Establishes, maintains, and coordinates the implementation of accounting control procedures.
  • Reviews, investigates, and corrects errors and inconsistencies in financial entries, documents, and reports.
  • Monitors and reviews accounting and related system reports for completeness and accuracy.
  • Monitors and ensures compliance with generally accepted accounting principles, internal control procedures, and company policies.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education/Certification:
Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university.  Certified Public Accountant license a plus.
