Position Summary

The Assistant Manager plays a key supporting role in the success of maman’s Westport location by partnering closely with the General Manager to ensure smooth daily operations, outstanding guest experiences, and strong team development. This role supports both front-of-house and back-of-house operations, helps drive financial performance, and upholds maman’s high standards of hospitality, quality, and brand aesthetics.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on, hospitality-driven leader who thrives in dynamic environments and is passionate about creating memorable experiences for guests and fostering a supportive and engaging atmosphere for team members.

Essential Responsibilities

Operations & Financial Management

  • Assist the General Manager in overseeing day-to-day café operations, ensuring service consistency and operational efficiency

  • Support scheduling, inventory, ordering, and daily reporting tasks

  • Help ensure compliance with food safety, cleanliness, and maman’s brand standards

  • Act as Manager-on-Duty (MOD) when the General Manager is off-site or unavailable

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead by example and assist General Manager in fostering a positive, team-oriented environment for approximately 25 FOH and BOH employees

  • Help onboard new hires in Harri and train new team members using maman's training tools

  • Assist with performance coaching and development conversations as directed by the GM

Guest Experience & Hospitality

  • Uphold maman’s hospitality standards, ensuring every guest feels welcomed, respected, and valued

  • Investigate and resolve guest concerns with professionalism and urgency

  • Build guest loyalty by developing rapport with regulars and fostering repeat visits

  • Maintain café aesthetics in line with maman’s lifestyle brand

Collaboration & Strategic Support

  • Partner with General Manager, Regional Directors and the maman support center on new SOPs, menu launches, marketing initiatives, and events

  • Support cross-functional events and partnerships, ensuring alignment with brand standards

  • Provide insights to leadership regarding staffing needs, market trends, and operational improvements

Qualifications & Skills

  • Minimum 1-2 years of leadership experience in hospitality or restaurant management

  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills

  • Proficiency with Toast, Harri, and 3rd-party delivery platforms

  • Possession of or ability to obtain valid food handler’s certification 

  • Strong commitment to food safety

  • Excellent leadership and problem-solving skills

  • Flexible availability, including weekends, holidays, and special events

  • Energetic, approachable, adaptable, and hospitality-driven with a passion for creating memorable guest experiences
