Overview

The Cluster Chief Engineer – West is responsible for leading and managing the engineering and maintenance operations across multiple hotel properties within the western region. This role ensures the optimal functioning, safety, and sustainability of all physical assets, infrastructure, and technical services. The position plays a strategic role in aligning maintenance initiatives with the overall business objectives of the hotels, enhancing guest satisfaction, and ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.

The Cluster Chief Engineer will oversee all aspects of preventive and corrective maintenance, capital projects, energy management, and contractor/vendor relationships. They will lead a team of engineers, technicians, and contractors, fostering a culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement. This role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and project management skills to deliver high-quality results across diverse hotel environments.

The Cluster Chief Engineer – West Hotels plays a crucial role in overseeing the technical and maintenance operations of Montcalm Mayfair hotels, Montcalm Piccadilly Townhouse hotel and Inhabit Hotels in west London. This leadership position is responsible for ensuring the efficient and safe functioning of all facilities, systems, and equipment within the hotels. The Cluster Chief Engineer is expected to lead engineering teams, manage projects, and maintain a high standard of quality and guest satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities 

· Develop and execute a comprehensive strategic plan for the Maintenance departments, aligned with the hotel's objectives.

· Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate maintenance staff, including managers, technicians, engineers, and contractors.

·  Foster a positive and collaborative work environment, promoting professional growth and development among team members.

·  Manage all construction, renovation, and maintenance projects within the hotels, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to high-quality standards. Collaborate with external vendors, contractors, and consultants as necessary.

·  Develop and implement a preventive maintenance program to prolong the lifespan of equipment, reduce downtime, and minimise disruptions to guest services.

·  Ensure routine inspections and maintenance tasks are performed efficiently.

·  Assist in preparation and management of the annual budget for the Engineering / Maintenance departments, monitoring expenses and optimising resource allocation.

· Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality and safety.

· Establish and maintain strong relationships with external service providers, suppliers, and contractors to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of services and materials.

· Ensure full compliance with all relevant Health & Safety regulations, building codes, and environmental standards.

· Implement safety protocols and emergency response procedures to protect guests and staff.

· Monitor and promptly address guest feedback related to maintenance and technical services, striving to exceed guest expectations.

· Conduct regular inspections of guest rooms and public areas to identify and address maintenance issues proactively.

· Implement energy-efficient initiatives and sustainable practices to reduce operating costs and minimise the environmental footprint of the hotels.

· Explore opportunities for renewable energy sources and green technologies.

· Provide ongoing training and development opportunities for departmental staff to enhance their technical skills and knowledge.

· Stay up to date with industry trends and best practices.

· Manage the physical plant and safety systems.

·  Maintain equipment for effectiveness.

·  Plan and evaluate preventative maintenance.

Skills & Qualification

· Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Facilities Management, or a related field preferred.

· Relevant mechanical or electrical qualifications.

· A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in technical services and maintenance, preferably in the hospitality industry.

· Strong leadership and team management skills.

· Excellent project management and budgeting abilities.

· In-depth knowledge of relevant regulations, industry standards, and best practices.

· Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.

· Commitment to safety, sustainability, and guest satisfaction.

Working Condition

· Flexibility to work shifts, including weekends, holidays, and evenings, as required.

· Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.

· Physical demands such as being on the feet for long periods of time and manual handling.
