Overview

The Employee Relations Officer acts as the first point of contact for all employee relations (ER) matters across Montcalm Collection. The role ensures fair and consistent treatment of employees while providing expert advice on policies, employment law, grievances, disciplinaries, and performance management.

By working closely with managers and the wider People & Culture team, the Employee Relations Officer plays a key role in supporting a positive, engaged, and legally compliant workplace culture that reflects Montcalm Collection’s values of respect, inclusivity, and wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities 

·Act as the first point of contact for all ER queries, ensuring timely and fair resolution.

·Manage and advise on disciplinaries, grievances, appeals, and capability processes in line with UK employment law and ACAS Code of Practice.

·Support impartial investigations into employee complaints, ensuring accurate documentation.

·Provide coaching and guidance to managers on ER issues and best practice.

·Maintain ER case trackers and records to support compliance and analysis.

·Keep HR policies and procedures up to date with legislation and Montcalm standards.

·Advise managers and employees on policies, contracts, and procedures.

·Support compliance checks, audits, and reporting requirements.

·Foster positive working relationships and promote a respectful, inclusive culture.

·Support initiatives that enhance employee engagement and wellbeing.

·Monitor ER trends and recommend proactive solutions to reduce risk.

·Support absence management, probation reviews, return-to-work meetings, and flexible working requests.

·Assist with HR projects such as policy rollouts, engagement surveys, and training programmes.

·Support managers with performance improvement plans and exit processes.

Skills & Qualifications

·Proven experience in Employee Relations, HR Advisor, or similar role (hospitality or service sector preferred).

·Strong knowledge of UK employment law, HR best practice, and ACAS Code of Practice.

·Ability to manage sensitive and complex ER cases professionally and confidentially.

·Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence and build trust.

·Highly organised, detail-oriented, and able to manage competing priorities.

·CIPD Level 5 (or working towards) preferred.

Working Condition

·Based at The Academy, with occasional cross-property support.

·Role involves support ER cases outside of core hours if required

·Office-based, flexibility required depending on business needs.
