Overview

The Director of Finance is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing the entire financial operations of the Montcalm Collection hotel cluster in London. This role ensures the delivery of robust financial management, strategic financial planning, commercial financial leadership, and compliance across multiple properties, supporting the business’s growth, EBITDA performance, and profitability goals.

Reporting directly to the Head of Hotels, the Director of Finance leads and develops a diverse finance team, ensures timely and accurate reporting, and partners closely with General Managers, Revenue, Sales, and department heads to drive financial performance, operational efficiency, and revenue optimization. The Director is a key driver of financial governance, risk management, commercial decision-making, and continuous improvement across the cluster.

The role also carries responsibility for supporting ownership/investor reporting and contributing to long-term value creation through strategic insight and financial leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the preparation and presentation of consolidated monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for the cluster.
  • Oversee and ensure consistency, accuracy, and compliance in daily finance operations across all hotels.
  • Direct the annual budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
  • Monitor and optimize cash flow, working capital, CAPEX expenditure, and financial risk management.
  • Drive EBITDA performance through cost control initiatives and commercial financial insight.
  • Conduct detailed variance analysis, providing insights and recommendations to senior management and stakeholders.
  • Ensure all balance sheet accounts are reconciled timely and accurately.
  • Manage relationships with internal and external auditors, coordinating audit schedules and compliance activities.
  • Ensure statutory compliance with HMRC regulations, VAT returns, tax obligations, and other relevant legislation.
  • Lead finance system implementations, upgrades, automation initiatives, and staff training programmers.
  • Manage, coach, and develop the finance team, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Review and authorize significant financial transactions in accordance with company controls and delegated authority framework.
  • Champion financial governance, internal controls, and risk mitigation strategies throughout the cluster.
  • Prepare and present financial performance reports to ownership/investor stakeholders where required.

Skills & Qualification

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 10+ years of progressive finance experience within the hospitality sector, preferably in multi-site or cluster environments.
  • Strong commercial acumen with proven experience in EBITDA and profitability improvement.
  • Deep knowledge of UK accounting standards, VAT, payroll, and hospitality-specific financial regulations.
  • Proficiency with financial systems (Sage, Sun, Opera PMS, or equivalents) and advanced Excel skills.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and people skills.
  • High attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure.
  • Experience in team management, development, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Understanding of payroll and tax compliance is advantageous.

Working Conditions

  • Full-time leadership role, based in London.
  • Requires flexibility, including occasional evenings or weekends, to meet business demands.
