Description
JOB SUMMARY
Assist the Quality Assurance (QA) Manager in the supervision, development of the Quality Assurance (QA) Technician/s and implementation of programs designed to enhance and improve the quality systems of JFC North America.

Quality System & Audit

  • Supervise Quality Assurance (QA) staff for completion of QA work assignments – this includes but not limited to:  scheduling, performance evaluations, disciplinary actions when needed, coaching and training or any learning intervention/s.
  • Assist in the implementation of cGMP and HACCP requirements.
  • Assist in conducting Food Defense, Food Safety/cGMP orientation, HACCP and other programs for QA, production and warehouse personnel
  • Assist in documenting, filing and updating QA procedures, quality records and other pertinent QA documents
  • Assist in periodic cGMP/HACCP audits and monitoring of sanitation and hygienic practices
  • Assist in investigation and documentation of customer complaints and/or plant- related quality issues or concerns
  • Assist in pilot test runs for new products to be launched
  • Submit weekly reports to QA Manager re: all quality related issues encountered i.e. store product rejects and damages; plant wastages; CAR/CAPA summary; GMP concerns, etc.
  • Participate in annual supplier audits.
Process Monitoring & Inspection
  • Assist in sampling and testing of all raw / packaging materials used for production
  • Assist in sampling of all items received from contract manufacturers and ingredient suppliers
  • Assist in conducting regular process audits to verify that the products meet the standard specifications as per Product Instruction sheets
  • Assist in responsibilities when it comes to traveling to monitor supplier performance.
  • Evaluate raw materials and assist the QA manager in preparing COA’s as needed.
  • Collect samples for microbiological test of in-process / finished products, food contact surfaces and food handlers – and analyze results for corrective measures.
  • Conduct random product weight checks and recommend controls by assisting the QA manager in statistically identifying preventive and corrective actions
  • Check the major raw materials (egg whites, egg yolks, cream, butter, etc.), major packaging materials (cake /roll boxes, liners, trays, etc.) and confirm that these are acceptable for use by Production
  • Verify, analyze and document all results of quality control inspections addressing critical points.
  • Assist the QA Manager in identifying all possible sources of process defects and establish corrective actions.
  • Coordinate with the Production Supervisors about the disposition of sub-standard finished products.
  • Check and record the concentration of sanitizing solutions used in each production area/section.
  • Calibrate all thermometers (daily) and weighing scales (weekly).
  • Check all production processing monitoring sheets (chiller/freezer temp monitoring, proofer  monitoring, oven temp monitoring, etc.) for completeness and accuracy.  Alert Production Supervisors if there are abnormalities seen.
  • Conduct walk-throughs with production and warehouse regularly to identify problem areas and/or implement/monitor corrective actions or improvements.
  • Accomplish a Corrective Action Request/CA Preventive Action (CAR/CAPA) form as needed and follow up Production for problem resolution.

Others

  • Prepare periodic status reports covering the operations of production and/or technical services to the QA Manager.
  • Prepare management reports, and/or QA reports/requirements.
  • Collaborate and initiate business meetings with internal support functions and external clients to achieve desired results related to QA projects.
  • Manage significant timelines and deliverables as agreed.
  • Perform other job or QA expertise related assignments in order to develop one’s self and/or share one’s expertise resulting to support work efficiencies.
Perform other duties/functions that maybe assigned by his/her immediate supervisor

JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
  • At least Associate Degree or related courses in Food Science, Manufacturing, Management.
  • Demonstrated experience in quality. assurance audit preferably in food manufacturing business; managing, collaborating and influencing people or teams preferably in the food manufacturing industry setting or equivalent combination of education & experience from which comparable knowledge, skills & abilities have been achieved.

Other Qualifications
  • Willing to travel and/or drive to other locations up to 50% of the time for QA inspections, and possess a valid driver’s license and passport.
  • Basic understanding of USDA and FDA disciplines and requirements.
  • Above average communication skills – preferably bilingual – English and Spanish.
  • Knowledge of basic tests that are conducted in the quality evaluation of raw materials and finished goods.
  • Proficient or basic knowledge in USDA/FDA requirements.
  • Some understanding of organoleptic evaluation process.
  • Above- average planning and organization skills.
  • Computer Literacy : Proficient in MS Applications (MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint) and  Outlook
  • Preferably with experience in Quality Control / Quality Assurance/ QC inspection  in food manufacturing.
  • Physical Effort/Requirements:  While performing the duties of this job, the employee will: 
    • Stand/walk for the majority of the scheduled work shift.
    • Lift, reach, pull, push, grasp and use hands frequently.
