What we look for in an Assistant Bar Manager:

We are looking for a passionate and experienced Assistant Bar Manager to lead the front-of-house team at The Ship Inn, a historic and much-loved pub in the heart of East Grinstead. With its warm atmosphere, traditional features, and strong local following, The Ship Inn is a cornerstone of the community and a destination for both locals and visitors alike.  

About the Role

As Assistant Bar Manager you’ll be the face of the bar – responsible for delivering exceptional service, managing a tight-knit team, and maintaining the high standards our guests expect. This is a hands-on leadership role where you’ll lead by example, whether you're pulling a perfect pint, training junior staff, or ensuring smooth day-to-day operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily bar operations, ensuring efficient and high-quality service.

  • Lead and motivate the bar team to deliver a warm, welcoming guest experience.

  • Maintain excellent product knowledge, particularly of Cask ales, Cocktails, Wines, and spirits.

  • Manage stock control, ordering, and deliveries in line with business needs.

  • Ensure all licensing laws, health & safety, and hygiene regulations are followed.

  • Collaborate with the General Manager on events, seasonal promotions, and menu pairings.

  • Handle customer feedback with professionalism and a solution-focused mindset.

  • Training, and staff development to build a confident and capable team.
