THE ROLE:

Reporting to the Director of Operations the Training Restaurant General Manager (TGM) is the primary support for the management teams in their respective restaurant locations and market.   The Training General Manager (TGM) role is crucial to Smashburger’s people focused culture. They are responsible for executing Smashburger training programs to Gold Standard. It is the TGM that evaluates the performance of new shift leaders and managers to certify their skills to perform their assigned job duties.    

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Foster a positive, high-energy team environment
  • Mentor and develop Restaurant General Managers across the market
  • Lead and execute manager training programs, including scheduling, skill validation, and progress tracking via Opus
  • Oversee hiring, staffing, and retention; recruit, interview, and onboard top talent
  • Train and develop all team members using structured learning tools and hands-on methods
  • Manage performance for managers, shift leaders, and team members; lead coaching, reviews, and recognition
  • Partner with HR to address employee relations and drive performance management processes
  • Ensure consistent execution of operational standards, audits, and compliance requirements
  • Monitor and elevate guest experience metrics; resolve customer concerns within 24 hours
  • Uphold food safety, sanitation, and regulatory compliance standards
  • Lead daily operations, including checklists, cash handling, and shift execution
  • Drive financial performance through labor management, cost control, and P&L participation
  • Manage inventory, ordering, and cost of goods to meet business targets
  • Control operating expenses and ensure budget adherence
  • Support sales growth through community engagement and local store marketing initiatives
  • Build and adjust schedules based on sales forecasts and labor targets
  • Facilitate clear, consistent communication across the management team
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies and employment regulations

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE:

  • 1-2 years of Restaurant General Manager experience in Smashburger 
  • No performance management incidences in last 6 months  
  • High Performer Food Safety Steritech Rating; Medium Performer remaining categories   
  • Attendance on TGM Quarterly Calls 
  • 85% on Annual Training Readiness Visit by FLM  
  • Flexible to work nights, weekends, and holidays 
  • Successfully complete Smashburger manager training program 
  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods of time and to move and lift boxes of food/ supplies up to 50 lbs. 
  • Ability to work in high and low temperatures 
  • Possess strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively communicate with restaurant management, front line employees and corporate support teams 
  • People management skills to effectively select, assess, coach/counsel, develop, motivate, and lead restaurant teams  
  • Excellent attention to detail  
  • Proven time management, consistency, and organizational skills 
  • Highly motivated, self-directed, and results driven
