Food Safety and Quality Assurance Manager – Supply Chain:

The Role:

As a CAVA Food Safety Manager – Supply Chain, you will be responsible for ensuring CAVA food meets quality and food safety standards across the Enterprise. You will be performing various functions to ensure foods are managed and monitored throughout manufacturing, growing, processing, distribution. You will be responsible for being a liaison with the supply chain team, develop ways to monitor cold-chain processes, and ensuring our guests receive a consistent, enjoyable experience every time they visit a CAVA restaurant. The position will report directly to the Director of Food Safety and Quality Assurance and requires some scheduling flexibility. The position may require 35% travel and visits to manufactures, growers, processors distribution centers and restaurants on the evenings and weekends, as necessary.

 

What You’ll Do:

·       Function as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Food Safety and Quality Assurance related trends, regulations, and legislation as they pertain to procurement, and product sourcing.

·       Oversee the onboarding of all new suppliers and manage an annual supplier approval process.

·       Work closely with Operations, Supply Chain, and other departments to provide guidance on, and assure implementation of, Food Safety and Quality Assurance programs.

·       Lead infection prevention and control activities including identifying, tracking, preventing, and responding to reports of infectious diseases including those that cause foodborne illness, and other communicable diseases such as COVID-19.

·       Conduct on-site quality audits at CAVA suppliers and distribution centers that includes evaluation of raw material storage and quality, equipment temperatures, cleanliness and organization, products labelled, foods adhere to quality standards including food hierarchy rules, portion sizes,  display specifications, and sensory evaluations.

·       Manage investigations and reporting of quality issues, market withdrawals and recalls, and implementation of internal audit control processes in the Quality Assurance/food safety arena.

·       Report food safety concerns and trends to upper management and propose mitigation steps.

·       Proof third-party auditing systems to create a clean, sanitary, and safe environment.

·       Research and implement new technologies to enhance food safety, quality, and traceability, throughout the supply chain.

·       Collect, synthesize, and analyze collected data and present data in PowerPoint or Tableau format to upper management.

·       Execute additional projects and tasks as assigned by the Director of Food Safety and Quality Assurance.

 

The Qualifications:

·       Bachelor’s degree in food science, sensory science, or other related field and/or combination of 5 years of industry experience and some education.

·       Minimum of 3 years of experience in Quality Assurance as it relates to the Supply Chain or manufacturing is desired.

·       Demonstrates a strong understanding of recall methodology, design, implementation, and execution.

·       Has specific knowledge and direct experience related to overseeing compliance with FDA, USDA and International regulations (FSMA training).

·       Clear understanding of the GFSI manufacturing audit and FSMA requirements and regulations.

·       HACCP plan and CAPA experience desired

·       Highly organized with exceptional analytical skills, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills

·       Able to collect, synthesize, and report data to upper management

·       Must be comfortable with Microsoft Office Suite, advanced skills in Microsoft Excel. Tableau is desired

·       Must be self-driven and able to work independently to deliver results by proposed deadlines

·       Must have strong communication skills, both verbal and written

·       Must be able to travel as needed to assigned regions.

 

Physical Requirements:

·       Ability to maintain stationary position to be able to operate a computer and other office equipment

·       Must be able to identify, analyze and assess details

·       For certain positions, must be able to occasionally move or transport items up to 50 pounds

·       Ability to communicate with others and exchange information accurately and effectively

·       Constantly positions self and move about to support ordinary restaurant or food production support or office operations, as applicable

·       Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner
