Manager of Food Safety:
The Manager of Food Safety & Quality Assurance will have responsibility for brand protection in terms of global food safety and will also develop, execute implementation of continuous improvement projects to enhance food quality processes and enforce food safety policies company-wide, while adhering to compliance with Regulatory Agencies.


As the company expands its business, this position will develop and implement guidance defining policy, training needs, and providing support to all aspects of the organization (operations, development, etc.) to ensure the safety of our product. The person will support Operations Services by developing and implementing programs related to food quality and safety at the operational level. This position will report directly to the Director of Food Safety and Quality Assurance.

 

 

What You’ll Do:

  • Develop and implement successful global food safety strategy and program execution, ensuring brand protection.
  • Provide corporate guidance to assess, control and resolve food safety risks in an effective and timely manner.
  • Provide strategic leadership and direction to ensure product integrity by setting common quality vision, structure, management systems and processes.
  • Conduct on-site auditing and training at individual restaurants as needed.
  • Function as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Food Safety and Quality Assurance related trends, regulations, and legislation as they pertain to restaurant operations, while maintaining a high level of expertise on related subjects, to ensure full compliance with all regulatory and 3rd party requirements.
  • Implement continuous improvement enhancements in the Food Safety area by setting goals and identifying key performance indicators for restaurants.
  • Identify risks within the restaurant operations and develop programs to minimize and ultimately eliminate them.
  • Work closely with Operation Services, Purchasing, Logistics, and other departments to provide guidance on, and assure implementation of, Food Safety and Quality Assurance programs.
  • Develop and manage reports, presentations, support data inputs and outputs from a third-party auditing process in order to measure Food Safety performance against industry and internal markers.
  • Manage investigations, and reporting of quality issues, market withdrawals and recalls, and implementation of internal audit control processes in the Quality Assurance/food safety arena.
  • Define and advocates a culture of food safety throughout the organization.
  • Assist with the managing and conducting of Quality Control product cuttings.

 

 

The Qualifications:

  • Passion to be part of a team + collaborator.
  • An undergraduate degree in food science or a graduate degree with related experience.
  • 10+ years of experience with quick or fast casual foodservice sector, specifically related to food safety matters, regulatory work, + audit procedures.
  • Understanding of third-party auditing + auditing experience.
  • A strong understanding of recall methodology, design, implementation, + execution processes.
  • An understanding of different sectors of the fast casual restaurant industry.
  • Have specific knowledge and direct experience related to overseeing compliance with FDA, USDA + International regulations (FSMA training).
  • Develop + implement corporate FSQA projects + programs that align with CAVA’s brand + mission.
  • Proven experience to effectively process information related to food safety + quality.
  • Experience leading cross functional teams in a large network of partners + departments.
  • Excellent quantitative + analytical communication skills (i.e., written + verbal).
  • Able to communicate ideas + theories in a clear + concise manner.
  • Have strong understanding of working with data base systems such as Tableau, ZenPut, Food Logic, PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Slack, Zoom + Outlook.
  • Influence others including third parties in a supply chain setting.
  • Must be able to travel as needed to assigned regions.
  • Detail oriented, especially with maintaining data bases + data sets
  • Able to manage projects independently.

 

 

Physical Requirements:

·       Ability to maintain stationary position to be able to operate a computer and other office equipment

·       Must be able to identify, analyze and assess details

·       For certain positions, must be able to occasionally move or transport items up to 50 pounds

·       Ability to communicate with others and exchange information accurately and effectively

·       Constantly positions self and move about to support ordinary restaurant or food production support or office operations, as applicable

·       Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner
