Lead Data Engineer - Operations


The Lead Data Engineer – Operations will play a critical role in ensuring CAVA’s ability to deliver insights and data products to both internal and external customers.  We are seeking a Lead Data Engineer to oversee our data operations team and ensure the smooth functioning of our data infrastructure. In this role, you will be responsible for managing a team of contractors, optimizing data pipelines, and maintaining data quality.  You will ensure timely delivery of key data assets that enable our business and allow us to delight our customers.

 

What You’ll Do:

  • Serve as the leader and provide oversight of a team of contractors, providing guidance, mentorship, and performance management.
  • Manage and optimize data operations data pipelines, ensuring data integrity, accuracy, and timely delivery.
  • Monitor and maintain data infrastructure, including databases, data warehouses, and cloud platforms.
  • Troubleshoot data-related issues and implement solutions that triage immediate short term fixes and long term solutions that to prevent recurrence.
  • Identify opportunities to improve data operations efficiency and effectiveness allowing stakeholders and business to maximize the information.
  • Work closely with data analysts, data engineers, and business stakeholders to meet their data needs and communicate data impacts in a timely and effective manner
  • Stay current as well as seek new data solutions, tools, platforms, technologies  and evaluate effectiveness
  • Lead teams to accomplish priorities and initiatives with the impact for the guest in mind
  • Effectively communicate goals, priorities, and action items to direct reports; actively give feedback on progress updates
  • Conduct impactful and meaningful DE&I conversations within team and organization
  • Create opportunities for Team Members to grow in their roles and progress into higher roles in the organization
  • Execute effective decision-making skills to led team to succeed
  • Oversee innovative solutions proposed by direct reports
  • Maintain emotional stability in stressful situations; lead by example for how our team should handle adversity
  • Abide by policies and procedures that support the service mindset
  • Manage timeline expectations within and across teams, deliver on our responsibilities accordingly
  • Earn the trust of Team Members and Managers by consistently embracing CAVA’s values

The Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in data engineering, with a strong focus on data operations.
  • Multiple years leading teams, providing guidance and effectively executing deliverables
  • Expertise in SQL, Python, and data warehousing technologies (e.g., Snowflake, Redshift).
  • Expertise as a lead on creating, defining and driving the data engineering solutions for operations
  • Strong understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure).
  • Experience with data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes – Boomi Experience is a plus
  • Experience with managing data workflows at scale – Apache Airflow is a plus
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Effectively be able to scale data solutions
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.


Physical Requirements:

  •  Ability to maintain stationary position to be able to operate a computer and other office equipment
  • Must be able to identify, analyze and assess details
  • For certain positions, must be able to occasionally move or transport items up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to communicate with others and exchange information accurately and effectively
  • Constantly positions self and move about to support ordinary restaurant or food production support or office operations, as applicable
  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner
