Manager of Food Safety (Supplier & Distribution Compliance):

The Manager of Food Safety & Quality Assurance (Supplier & Distribution Compliance) will have an opportunity to work with various suppliers and distribution partners to ensure they meet or exceed regulatory requirements and CAVA food safety and quality standards. This position will play and active role in ingredient/facility risk assessments, on site audits, ensuring specification compliance and partnering with suppliers on continuous improvement projects. This role will also help to support CAVA’s growth by evaluating new suppliers for approval and partnering with the supply chain team to ensure proper cold chain management and traceability requirements are met. The ideal candidate is naturally curious, has the ability to utilize data to identify trends and is able to successfully investigate and resolve quality issues.

What You’ll Do:

  • Function as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Food Safety and Quality Assurance related items, regulations, and legislation as they pertain to supplier and distribution center requirements.
  • Conduct on-site audits for new and existing CAVA suppliers and distribution centers to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements as well as CAVA food safety and quality standards.
  • Manage investigations of reported issues, ensuring concerns are resolved in an effective and timely manner and corrective/preventative actions have been implemented.
  • Utilize data and reporting to help communicate findings and propose recommendations to the FSQA team, leadership, and cross functional partners.
  • Ensure traceability programs meet or exceed regulatory requirements and support mock withdrawals/recalls
  • Support supplier onboarding and compliance process in part by reviewing documentation, following up when necessary, monitoring performance and conducting on site audits.
  • Work closely with other departments to provide guidance on, and assure implementation of, Food Safety and Quality Assurance programs.
  • Assist with planning and coordinating product evaluations as well as documenting observations and sharing feedback with culinary and supply chain partners.
  • Provide technical support and expertise in quality related problem solving, risk analysis and crisis management.
  • Actively contribute to continuous improvement of processes and make strategic recommendations to the management team to enhance programs.
  • Research and identify new technologies to enhance food safety, quality, and traceability, throughout the supply chain.
  • Abide by policies and procedures that support the service mindset
  • Manage timeline expectations within and across teams, deliver on our responsibilities accordingly

The Qualifications:

  • Collaborative and able to work well in a team environment with both internal and external contacts and communicate in a clear and concise manner.
  • Bachelor's Degree (BS) in related field, such as Food Science, Microbiology or Biochemistry.
  • 5+ years of experience with quick or fast casual foodservice, specifically related to food safety, regulatory, supplier and distribution compliance and auditing.
  • Experience with supplier and distribution center auditing, monitoring, and approval programs.
  • Understanding and experience with GFSI standards and audit schemes and Certification Bodies.
  • Direct experience and able to ensure compliance to various regulatory requirements.
  • Comfortable analyzing information and communicating findings and insights utilizing data analysis tools (i.e. Excel, Tableau).
  • Proficient in MS Office programs.
  • Must be able to travel as needed (50%+) and able to work flexible hours.




Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to maintain stationary position to be able to operate a computer and other office equipment
  • Must be able to identify, analyze and assess details
  • For certain positions, must be able to occasionally move or transport items up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to communicate with others and exchange information accurately and effectively
  • Constantly positions self and move about to support ordinary restaurant or food production support or office operations, as applicable
  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner
