Company Profile:

At CAVA, we make it deliciously simple to eat well and feel good every day. We are guided by a Mediterranean heritage that’s been perfecting how to eat and live for four thousand years. We prioritize authenticity, curiosity and the pursuit of excellence in everything we do. We are working towards something big, together.

We foster a culture built on five core values:

  • Generosity First, Always: We lead with kindness. Our best work happens when we act in service of others.
  • Constant Curiosity: We are eager to learn, grow, and explore beyond the obvious.
  • Act with Agility: We welcome change; it’s the only constant. We embrace, adjust, adapt.
  • Passion for Positivity: We greet each day with warmth and possibility.
  • Collective Ambition: We have high aspirations that are achieved when we work together with a shared purpose.

Head of Copy

CAVA is looking for a Head of Copy to lead the copy team to deliver concepts and copy for a wide range of briefs, lead on concept pitches, and manage, mentor, and lead the team. We’re looking for someone from an agency background (in-house or other), the ability to develop award-winning creative concepts, able to write about a deliciously wide range of Mediterranean flavors and textures, and a strong team player able to inspire and lead their team.

In this role you will own our messaging strategies and voice to ensure consistency across all touchpoints and new initiatives. You will come up with 360 campaign ideas and one-off brand moments, as well as nailing the day-to-day stuff, writing short and long form copy across touchpoints including in-restaurant, e-commerce, email marketing, OOH, packaging, and paid media channels.

What You’ll Do:

This highly strategic, creative, and detail-oriented position requires strong communication skills and will work closely with many different teams to craft the narrative of CAVA. We seek an individual who has a true passion for what drives consumer behavior and a desire to translate that into compelling copy. A data-driven creative collaborator and thought-partner with intellectual curiosity and a continuous desire to push the envelope. We seek a culture vulture – knowledgeable about who is doing cool things and what’s trending in food and pop culture – and how to translate it to our brand and connect with our guests. Our ideal candidate is a master of maintaining a cheeky, evocative, and ever-confident brand voice, and can speak with great authority on food, culture, wellness, and consumer behavior.

  • Manage, lead, and inspire a team of in-house and freelance copywriters, providing a north star vision while fostering growth
  • Develop and maintain the brand's voice standards and messaging strategies to drive brand consistency and evolution. We are on a mission to become an even stronger, stickier brand with raised awareness and brand affinity. Our words and content are one important part of the puzzle to get us there, and that will be your challenge.
  • Oversee, edit, and write copy for all touchpoints — brand campaigns to product launches, email marketing to direct mail pieces, Instagram stories to digital advertising, product descriptions to packaging, out-of-home to campaign video (and beyond). The copy purview of this role is broad and requires the ability to pivot seamlessly between micro- and macro-level views, and direct others to do the same.
  • Generate ideas for seasonal concepts and storylines and present the work to a wide range of audience.
  • Execute ideas and copy that cut through the noise, elevates the customer experience, and tells a strong brand story connected to our menu and mission
  • Work in tandem with the design director to guide and inspire the team as well as elevate the brand. Push on each other to move the brand forward, identify efficiencies, and create a rock-solid, holistic creative strategy that spans across channels and ladders up to brand goals.
  • Use performance metrics and other data (especially customer insights) to guide smarter creative decisions. You will be expected to use data as a key input for your team’s work, and also to understand when data might be getting in the way of elevated creative work.
  • Manage team resources and projects, optimizing and streamlining processes with mindfulness to scalability, consistency, and ease of ongoing improvements.
  • Explore and recommend new and innovative ways to story tell our brand narrative.
  • Live in lockstep with your cross-functional partners. You'll be responsible for maintaining seamless communication, understanding and influencing their priorities and goals, and effectively translating creative strategy when required.

Physical Requirements:

  • 7+ years' experience in copywriting at creative agency/studio or in-house agency at a brand
  • 3+ year experience leading others and managing a team
  • A proven excellence in food, lifestyle, and related culture or consumer lifestyle verticals.
  • Brand-centered portfolio showcasing conceptual capabilities through campaign work and print and digital brand storytelling
  • Can write for a variety of outputs from three-word headlines to 1,000-word essays with dynamic, flexible voice
  • A highly conceptual yet hyper-organized creative with proven experience in campaign and systems thinking
  • A self-starter who can lead creative projects with a constant desire to improve + remain innovative in an ever-evolving marketplace
  • Articulate and well-developed point of view about food, lifestyle, and culture.
  • A sharp, smart sense of humor and confident voice
  • An understanding of the functional and design implications of each character count and turn of phrase
  • A strong manager-doer, not just an ideal person. You understand that great brand building is about the execution and the details. You’re not afraid to roll up your sleeves while also managing and empowering your tea
  • Ability to maintain stationary position to be able to operate a computer and other office equipment
  • Must be able to identify, analyze and assess details
  • For certain positions, must be able to occasionally move or transport items up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to communicate with others and exchange information accurately and effectively
  • Constantly positions self and move about to support ordinary restaurant or food production support or office operations, as applicable
  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner

What we offer:

  • Competitive salary, plus bonus and long-term incentives*
  • Early Wage Access!
