Senior Lifeguard

The Wave is the first inland-surfing destination of its kind, where people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities can experience the joy of surfing and its many physical and mental health benefits. But it’s not just about surfing. It’s about getting back to nature, improving health and well-being, connecting with other people, enjoying great food and drink, and having a load of fun in the process! 

Our 180m long surfing lake is powered by Wavegarden. This groundbreaking technology can generate up to 1,000 quality waves per hour, ranging from 50cm (1.7ft) to almost 2m (6.5ft) in height. We can produce a new wave every 8-10 seconds. 

As a Senior Lifeguard at The Wave, you will see hundreds of visitors surfing each day, abilities ranging from internationally recognised pro surfers to young children who have never surfed before. You will be responsible for ensuring the safety of all our visitors, act as a champion of health and safety and lead by example to contribute to the Wave’s proactive safety culture. As well as usual lifeguarding duties you will play a key role within a large surf operations team assisting in training and mentoring new lifeguards.

What You’ll be up to:

• Full time role in operational months
• RLSS Trainer / Assessor
• Assisting in training Team members
• Mentoring new or inexperienced lifeguards
• Leading Incident management 
• Taking on additional responsibility H&S understanding of lake RA, Lake evacuations, wind Procedure and lightening
• Advanced control room knowledge and training
• Knowledge of machine breakdown and procedure
• Supporting other senior team members and part of management team
• Knowledge of rota, daily rotation , daily duties
• Promoting site wide standards
• Full support to Surf Supervisors
• Lake management

Our Ideal Wavemaker will have excellent communication skills, with a strong desire to ensure the safety and well-being of others. You;ll need a strong attention to detail, especially with regards to Health and Safety, with an ability to spot trends and errors. Our Wavemakers have proactive and ambitious mindsets, with a desire to ‘muck-in’!

Our lifeguards must be NPLQ or beach lifeguard qualified, which will need to be uploaded as part of your application. You will also be required to provide a clear DBS certificate which is obtained after the date of any job offers.

We are working hard to make sure that we are ready to get up and riding for our 2022 season. In order to do this we will need to expand our team. We are looking for a Senior Lifeguard to join us on a 35hr fixed-term contract.
