The Wave is a slice of the ocean inland, where people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities can experience the joy of blue health and its many benefits.

Our 180m long surfing lake is powered by Wavegarden. This ground-breaking technology can generate up to 1,000 quality waves per hour, ranging from 50cm (1.7ft) to almost 2m (6.5ft) in height. We can produce a new wave every 8-10 seconds. 

As a Senior Lifeguard at The Wave, you will see hundreds of visitors each day, from children splashing around in play in the bay, to pros surfing and bodyboarding on the expert wave setting. You will be responsible for ensuring the safety of all our visitors, act as a champion of health and safety and lead by example to contribute to the Wave’s proactive safety culture. As well as usual lifeguarding duties you will play a key role within a large surf operations team assisting in training and mentoring new lifeguards.

Our Senior Lifeguards:

• Manage the daily operations of the lifeguard team, having knowledge of the rota, daily rotation & daily duties
• Act as a role model and continually look to improve standards within the lifeguard team
• Ensuring standard operating procedures are followed at all times,
• Deliver our curriculum of training to the lifeguards and coaches, keeping the appropriate records
• Mentor new or inexperienced lifeguards
• Lead on Incident management 
• Take on H&S responsibility (understanding of lake RA, Lake evacuations, wind Procedure and lightening)
• Receive training to have advanced control room knowledge
• Receive training to have knowledge of machine breakdown and procedure
• Support other senior team members and act as part of the department’s leadership  team
• Promote site wide standards
• Support the Surf Supervisors
• Deliver training to qualify new lifeguards in house

Already having the RLSS training assessor qualification is desirable. However, The Wave will provide this for the right candidate.

You must be Beach lifeguard qualified and provide a clear DBS prior to commencing work.

Our Ideal Wavemaker will have excellent communication skills, with a strong desire to ensure the safety and well-being of others. You’ll need a strong attention to detail, especially with regards to Health and Safety, with an ability to spot trends and errors. Our Wavemakers have proactive and ambitious mindsets, with a desire to ‘muck-in’!

This is a permenant role, 35hrs per week.
