Trainee Surf Coaches - May Course (10th - 24th)

Description

The Wave are on the lookout for aspiring surf coaches to come and join us for the 2023 season!

We understand a barrier to achieving the required coaching qualifications can often be the cost and the location of course providers. The Wave wants to make this easier for aspiring coaches and have therefore brought the course inland and will cover the upfront cost.

Join Matty our Senior Lifeguard and Trainer Assessor in the next cohort of trainee surf coaches. By the end of the course, you will have achieved your ISA Level 1 surf coach and RLSS beach lifeguarding qualification, preparing you for your (paid) 20 hours of shadowing, and subsequent new role as a surf coach!  You'll join an amazing team who work and surf together!

In order to be considered you must be able to commit to the following:

  • Available for the duration of the duration of the course at The Wave (10th - 24th May, these include rest days)
  • Able to commit to a 28 hour per week (possibly more) fixed-term contract running (from May – Oct)
  • Available to work weekends and the duration of the school hols
  • Able to provide us with a clear DBS certificate dated after any offers of employment and prior to commencing the course
  • Be part of a team that consistently pulls together, ensuring that we deliver the amazing sessions & experiences here at The Wave
  • Provide two satisfactory employment references, one of which should be from your current or most recent employer
To pass the course you'll need to

  • Meet the timed swim target within the lifeguarding course of 400m in 7.5 minutes
  • Be able to surf our intermediate wave setting here at The Wave

The Training Contract

You will be required to enter into a training agreement, whereby, subject to completing a minimum amount of hours during your employment you will incur no charge for the cost of the course. For individuals who don’t meet these hours, a proportionate charge will be deducted on your final pay. The training agreement will set out the full cost implications.

What happens at the end of the contract?

It may be possible for the participants to continue working for us as part of our casual bank of workers at the end of the fixed-term contract. We also hope that we would see you return as part of The Wave family in subsequent seasons.

Recruiting for diversity is not simply a tick box for The Wave, it is our ethos, the right thing to do and the smartest way for us to do business. We are an Equal Opportunities employer, committed to encouraging equality, diversity and inclusion among our workforce, and eliminating all unlawful discrimination.
