Located in the heart of Mayfair, The Arts Club is one of London’s oldest private members’ clubs and home to a community of members with a passion for the creative arts, literature, and business. From distinguished art exhibitions to fine dining, live music, and an exceptional programme of events for members, the club remains at the heart of contemporary cultural life in London. 

We have an exciting opportunity for a passionate Director of People & Culture to join the team and play a key role in fostering a positive work environment that reflects our commitment to service excellence and providing support across the club while managing the day to day running of our vibrant People & Culture department focusing on the entire employee experience from onboarding, engagement, recruitment & retention, training & development and performance management. This role reports to the Chief Operating Officer and is based on site (no WFH), normal office hours, Monday to Friday.

Successful applicants will become part of a fun, dynamic team who work closely with the operations teams who bring The Arts Club to life on the daily basis.

About the role:

  • Support all recruitment and selection activities
  • Drive our training and development culture for all employees
  • Work closely with management team on all performance management matters
  • Ensures complete compliance with legal and regulatory requirements
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of best practice and suggest initiatives to enhance employee engagement and well-being
  • Being responsive and proactive communicating effectively
  • Support managing our HR/Payroll/Internal comms systems
  • Collaborate and be able to work effectively as a part of a team or independently

About you:

We are looking for an experienced Director of People & Culture who we anticipate will have at least 3-5 years’ experience in a similar role within hospitality. Private members club experience is a plus! In addition, to be successful in this role you will need: 

  • Sound HR generalist knowledge
  • Ability to work under pressure, remain calm
  • Comfortable handling all levels of people matters
  • Confident, professional, and welcoming personality
  • Strategically minded and by the same token ‘hands on’ and close to the business
  • Able to identify and create new systems and procedures. 
  • Should be standards driven with the ability to organise and plan ahead
  • Have a flexible approach to their work
  • Excellent leadership skills, with steadfast resolve and personal integrity
