Description

The Brownsword Group has created arguably the most iconic collection of historic countryside and city centre hotels, all wonderful properties set within beautiful grounds and cities, all with their own stories to share. Generosity, quality, and welcoming hospitality is what they do very well. Being exceptional hoteliers has been the core of the operation, creating a successful hospitality business.

Reporting to the CEO, we are now looking for a General Manager to lead our hotel and it's team to success. We’re looking for a leader, someone who knows running a hotel is about the guests and the team, as well as the finances. We want someone who will coach and develop our people, whilst delivering great service across the operation and achieving the hotel's commercial goals.

Location: The Imperial Torquay is a magnificent 19th Century 152-bedroom Victorian four-star hotel, and offers breath taking sea views, plus a host of leisure facilities, making it fun and picturesque location to work in.
Just a short walk from the main train station and town centre, the hotel is really accessible for our employees.
Some staff car parking is available on site, as is free use of all the hotel's leisure facilities, including our gym and swimming pools.
Send us a Whatsapp message with FAMILYFIRST to +44 7782 822774 to find out more, chat to us and apply (or apply the normal way, whichever works best for you!)

Hours:  Full time

Bonus: We have a General Manager bonus scheme at all our hotels- we'll let you know all about this and GM perks and benefits at the interview!

The role- our next General will:

  • Provide day to day leadership driving the business strategy in all areas of the operation within a seasonal operation.
  • Be experienced in all areas of hotel operations from housekeeping to F&B or guest experience to leisure facilities. Your knowledge and experience will help refine operations and drive service throughout the property.
  • Drive sales and revenue, balancing costs against these so that we meet our business targets.
  • Be charismatic and engaging and people centric- they will always know what's going on with the team.
  • Have good commercial skills and awareness – confident in analysing information to make sound commercial decisions.
  • Know how to analyse and manage the hotel P&L to success.
  • Have strong IT skills and be able to use digital platforms well (Opera, Procure Wizard, Fourth & Harri)
  • You are present within the business but develop and lead and strong HOD team to successfully deliver day to day operations.
  • Engage with and take the opportunity to work with our the central support teams (marketing, revenue, sales, finance & HR), implementing group strategies whilst also driving local activity to make the hotel great!
  • Have previous experience as a hotel General Manager in a similar style property.
  • Proven RevPAR/EBITDA performance track record
  • Experience in driving change
  • Exposure to leading capital projects/refurbishment
  • Experience in managing seasonal hotel properties

Our GM's meet at least twice a year in person and also have fortnightly calls- so there is always an opportunity to ask questions, get support and find out what is going on across the business.

To say thank you, we have many perks:

  • Treat yourself once in a while with lots of retail and hospitality perks through our Perkbox platform.
  • Excellent discounts across our family of hotels – you will be entitled to 25% off food & beverage in our hotels plus we offer an amazing staff rate of £25 B&B per person across the group & your friends and family get special rates too.
  • We understand it’s OK not to be OK, so we offer an externally run confidential helpline for any support you require about anything you might need as part of our Employee Assistance Programme.
  • We sustain you physically too, meals when you are on duty are free.
  • We like to say a special thank you for every year you are with us - our milestone awards include Champagne, afternoon tea, or dinner for you and someone special. When you reach the big milestones, you receive extra special gifts on top like longer hotel stays, extra days off and a unique gift especially chosen for you.

About our family of hotels

We bring a family of hotels together under one roof, ready to welcome guests with open arms, warm hearts and experiences that are simply memorable.

Each of our hotels are unique, individual, and quirky in personality. Quality is fundamental to everything we do, and it is the simple things that matter. We believe everyone should feel included, special and welcome, and that applies to our team and our guests.

We have very unique hotels in very special locations, from the award winning Gidleigh Park in Devon, the 900-year-old Amberley Castle to our cool city centre Abode Manchester set in a 19th century textile factory, two minutes from Piccadilly train station – to see the whole group, take a look here www.brownswordhotels.co.uk
