SUMMARY

The Assistant Director of People & Culture must have HR generalist knowledge, and be versed in the areas of benefits, workforce planning, compliance, recruitment and staffing strategies, wage and salary administration, associate and labor relations, workforce training and development, and local diversity initiatives. This highly visible role assists and will work closely with all department heads to provide the support needed. This position will also be heavily involved in training and development and in the execution of the HR initiatives. The Human Resources function prides itself on excellence, service, integrity, and accountability.

The Assistant Director of People & Culture supports and partners with the Director of People & Culture to design, develop and implement multi-phased employee and management development strategies that are aligned with the Inn’s goals and support the business objectives and culture of People & Culture practices. Drives the development and rollout of human resources initiatives and services in support of culture change to achieve business goals.

Oversees all aspects of People & Culture in the absence of the Director of People & Culture.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

·         Provide leadership to create a culture and work environment based upon respect; providing opportunities for staff to learn, grow and develop their abilities through training of employees and creating a positive, productive working environment.

·         Ability to create, post and recruit jobs opening for The Inn at Little Washington in a variety of markets to hire and retain the right candidates for each role.  Ensure all open positions are advertised on various appropriate wed site, LinkedIn, Company web site, Hospitality and Culinary job boards.

·         Process new hires paperwork and enroll them in Paycom while ensuring company compliance with local and federal laws.

·         Monitor eligibility for all employees to enroll in selected benefits on time   

·         Create and maintain multiple robust forms of internal employee communications. 

·         Oversee the final approval stage of biweekly payroll for The Inn at Little Washington to ensure accuracy and timely processing.

·         Develop and coordinate the planning, organizing, training and leadership necessary to achieve stated responsibilities in employee retention and employee satisfaction.

·         Foster an environment where employees know they are valued, ensuring they are treated fairly and with respect. Build a culture of open communication, spend time with employees on the frontlines, and be available for them (“open door policy”)

·         Monitor the local labor environment, including the competitiveness of pay and benefits, and partner with Director of People & Culture to address issues.

·         Successfully and innovatively assist in the implementation HR strategic objectives and monitor for best-in-class results

·         Partner with the Director of People & Culture to deliver on The Inn at Little Washington Values by creating high-impact employee engagement experiences

·         Champion The Inn at Little Washington culture to inspire high-performing multi-cultural, multi-generational teams that build The Inn at Little Washington talent pipeline.

·         Remain current on trends to evaluate innovative ways for process/practice improvements, workplace enhancements and share best practices.

·         Participate or represent The Inn at Little Washington in industry or HR professional associations

·         Integrate The Inn at Little Washington Values and Mission when implementing HR Ops initiatives

·         Assist in the creation of a vibrant Heart of House physical environment and ambiance that makes employees feel energized, comfortable, and motivated.

·         Develop a recognition culture that exists among employees and across all departments

·         Cultivate and promote diversity and inclusion at the club and deliver on The Inn at Little Washington D&I objective

·         Ensure HR standards/practices are compliant with federal/country, state/city laws and audit at least 1x/year incl. but not limited to key areas of employment/labor laws, AAP, safety, immigration, etc.

·         Personify the best values of the brand, demonstrating exceptional work ethic and service delivery for all employees at The Inn

·         Proactively identify present and future talent gaps and create action plans to address shortfalls

·         Ensure meaningful onboarding and training programs are in place for all new hires

·         Ensure internal transfers/promos are the priority when filling positions prior to posting externally

·         Generate consolidated monthly labor turnover data, ensure GM reviews with Executive Committee with corrective action plans

·         Maintain open lines of continuous, interactive communication with employees to ensure engagement (town halls, exit interviews, focus groups, coffee with employees)

·         Partner with Director of People & Culture and department heads on completion of employee reviews

·         Promote benefits and rewards of working for The Inn at Little Washington through various communication channels

·         Engage in networking events to ensure the most qualified, diverse applicants are attracted and selected for employment and highlights The Inn at Little Washington as an employer of choice

·         Ensure mentoring and coaching culture is part of The Inn’s DNA and incorporate career discussions.

·         Constantly ideate the innovative, encouraging others to experiment and take calculated risks to improve outcomes

·         Understand all policies, procedures, standards, specifications, guidelines, and training programs for The Inn at Little Washington

·         Assume 100% responsibility for the quality of services and follow up provided to all levels every of the Inn’s employees

·         Continually strive to develop the staff in all areas of managerial and professional development

·         Oversee and ensure that policies on employee performance appraisals are followed and completed on a timely basis

·         Fully understand and comply with all federal, state, county and municipal regulations that pertain to health, safety and labor requirements of the club, employees, and members

·         Adherence to any additional reasonable task or request that may be asked of you that is ethically and in keeping with the law 

·         Work closely with the HR coordinator to assist with offer letters and a minimum of two reference checks for all candidates is completed prior to the offer letter being sent.

·         Establish and maintain a data base for all SOP’s working closely with the Department Heads

·         Serve as liaison between employees and managers to educate, facilitate and ensure compliance with FMLA (Family and Medical Leave Act), military and personal leave and any reasonable accommodation request related to the American Disability Act (ADA).

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

·         3+ years of experience as a Human Resources Generalist in the hospitality industry

·         Results-driven leader who is fearless about execution, is creative, can champion a vision and roadmap, and is not afraid to dig into the details

·         A formidable team player who supports their team and embraces ownership, accountability, and responsibility for the team’s work

·         Good oral and written communication skills

·         Good facilitation, written and verbal communication skills with all levels of management

·         Demonstrated ability to influence and coach others, with appropriate self-confidence and presence.

·         Detail oriented, excellent prioritization, time management, organizational and follow up skills

·         Demonstrated ability for process excellence and project management

·         Open availability and flexibility to work according to the needs of the business

·         Comfortable with Word, PowerPoint, and Excel

            Preferred

·         Bilingual (Spanish and English) preferred

·         Familiarity with Federal and State employment Law

·         Bachelor's degree in human resources or related area

·         Affiliates membership with SHRM

  Desirable
