SUMMARY

Maintain responsibility for all aspects of proper turf care and maintenance of lawn areas throughout the property. Perform routine maintenance of irrigation and work with the director/manager to create new irrigation plans and installations. Maintain 5-star standards of excellence through all phases of the workday.

 

Daily responsibilities:

  1. Assess the mowing and turf care needs throughout the property daily
  2. Mowing, string trimming, leaf clean-up and weeding
  3. Irrigation maintenance, repairs, and installation.
  4. Work with the Estate Garden and Ground Director and outside contractors to develop an advanced annual turf care schedule.
  5. During peak flower season assist the team in planting of annual flowers throughout the property
  6. Performing labor functions, cleanup, mulching, plant installation, snow shoveling, etc., as directed by Management

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Candidate to have a minimum of 3 years of prior full-time experience in estate/fine garden management, commercial landscape maintenance, high end residential landscape maintenance or design/build, resort landscape maintenance, or other similar landscaping focused discipline that provides practical field experience relating to a large, detail oriented, horticulturally diverse property.
  • Shall hold a valid Virginia Driver’s License and shall have reliable transportation.
  • Experience with a variety of small engine equipment: mowers, line trimmers, bed ledgers, mechanical shears, backpack blowers, etc.
  • Chain saw/tree experience a plus.
  • Experience with basic landscape hand tools required.
  • Commercial pesticide applicator license preferred.
  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule including weekends and holidays as needed 
  • Individuals will have to be self-motivated, organized, attentive to details, and have time management skills. 
  • Consistently serve as an ambassador to The Inn at Little Washington in all interactions.

 

SKILLS

  • Have a functional knowledge of turf maintenance and turf pest management.
  • Have of skill in irrigation installation and maintenance.
  • Understand how a team works, and the ability to work well with different personalities to maximize performance and efficiency of varying tasks and situations that may arise during the work period.
  • Able to implement and manage the safety programs within the Grounds & Gardens Division. 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  1. Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  2. Able to stand and walk for extended periods of time to be spent on feet. Position requires full mobility across uneven terrain.
  3. Able to continuously bend, reach and twist.
  4. Ability to work in an outdoor environment, performing a wide range of landscape related tasks in an often-dusty environment with exposure to pollen and other such natural conditions.
