SUMMARY

1. The responsibility for this role, in addition to working in the dining room as a sommelier, will be to spear head staff education and training. This includes Junior Sommeliers as well as hourly FOH employees. Together with DOW and ADOW, they will develop training programs for beginners, that all FOH and BOH staff can attend, as well as a more in-depth classes for Captains and Front servers.

2. Responsible for suggesting wine to guests, pouring wine pairings when necessary, safeguarding all beverage assets for IALW. 

3. Duties may include but are not limited to receiving, storage, distribution and security of all wine and beverage product, daily maintenance of all wine lists, updating and keeping POS system current, staff training and COGS tracking, month end and daily wine inventory. Also, working in the dining room nightly as a sommelier and supporting service team is essential. In addition, sommeliers will assist and support the cellar master in the organization, upkeep and cleanliness of all wine cellars and wine storage units.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1.       Assist, accomplish prep/side work as assigned and support the daily needs for dinner service

2.       Act as sommelier on the floor and in the lounge areas

3.       Help sell bottled wine as instructed by DoW during service

4.       Assist in Pour pairing wines for our prix fixe menus in a timely manner, when needed

5.       Explain via one-liners the wine pairing when needed

6.       Maintain the aesthetic of assigned station: guest tabletop/work area

7.       Be present/focused on the operation during service

8.       Complete closing duties as assigned

9.       Assist in the receipt and storage of all wine product in their proper areas

10.    Maintain the ongoing security of all wine assets

11.    Develops staff wine training with the Assistant DoW. DoW will aid with and approve any and all training.


QUALIFICATIONS

Required

1.       5 + years floor experience as sommelier in high-end restaurant/ hotel

2.       5 + years’ experience assisting in the organization and upkeep of a large (1000+ selection) wine cellar

3.       Excellent and effective trainer

4.       Certified or Advanced standing with W.S.E.T./C.M.S.

5.       Experience working with a large cellar (1000+ selections) or with a Wine Spectator Grand Award cellar

6.       Basic understanding of the business of wine (purchasing, costs, asset protection).

7.       Basic knowledge of major wine regions/producers

Desirable

1.       2+ years supervisory responsibility

2.       Some travel and personal experience visiting producers/vineyards in major growing areas

3.       Basic reference points of Michelin and fine dining establishments in U.S and abroad


SKILLS

1.       Creative problem solver

2.       Ability to connect with guests and guide them to a wine that they will love

3.       Strong knowledge of the major wine regions of the world
